Street Fighter IV, released more than six years ago, was the project that breathed new life into classic 2D fighting games. It not only brought the genre back into the mainstream, but also raised it to a new level, winning the love of millions of players around the world. This is eloquently evidenced by impressive sales, a stable place for the game in the program of the largest eSports tournaments like EVO and a noticeable surge of interest in the genre – both from developers and ordinary gamers. Over time, Street Fighter IV has become an integral part of the history of the gaming industry. It perfectly combines deep gameplay, a rich selection of characters, a unique style in which brightness harmoniously coexists with brutality, and a signature sense of humor. The constant support of the developers only strengthened the position of the project, turning it into not just a successful game, but a real dream for connoisseurs of the genre.

The story with the PS4 version of Ultra Street Fighter IV was, to put it mildly, awkward. The game’s life cycle was already approaching its end, with a whole series of updates and re-releases behind it, and it would seem that here it is, the moment of truth: the last, most complete and polished edition of the legendary fighting game. But instead of a triumphant release, we were in for a cold shower. At that time, Capcom was already hard at work forging the fifth part of the series, so work on the port was entrusted to a third-party studio, with a reputation, to put it mildly, questionable. And yes, they managed to seriously miss.
At the release, we got an “absolute” version with a whole bag of bugs, some of which literally broke the gameplay. Almost invisible projectiles, strange delays in the menu, freezing fighters, and instead of the usual sounds of jumps and blows – a metallic grinding sound. Experienced players quickly noticed another unpleasant detail: the input lag on the PS4 turned out to be higher than on the previous generation of consoles, although one of the goals of the port was to get rid of such lags. The irony is that this version was supposed to become the official standard at EVO that year. It’s hard to imagine a more unfortunate start.

Fixing such a reputation is not an easy task. But Other Ocean Interactive, together with Capcom, acted quickly: in just a couple of weeks, they fixed the most critical problems, improved the network mode and rid the game of visually and technically annoying bugs. Now the port has become noticeably more stable, reacts faster and overall feels much more dignified. Yes, the moment was missed, and the PS4 version is unlikely to return to the rotation of major tournaments, but for ordinary players, the situation has changed for the better. Today, we can finally say: we really have that very same, full-fledged Ultra Street Fighter IV in front of us. Well… almost.

All the features of Ultra Street Fighter IV
The full version of Ultra Street Fighter IV was released a year ago, but in essence it is the same “Ultra” as on the previous generation of consoles. The set includes the familiar 44 fighters, familiar modes and all the innovations of past years, such as Red Focus Attack or delayed rise. The only difference is that now Omega Mode with alternative versions of characters is immediately available, and all the ever-released costumes have been generously added to the set. Want Ryu to fight in a panda costume? No problem.
There is also a nice bonus – support for arcade sticks from PlayStation 3. If you already have one gathering dust at home, you won’t have to buy a new one, especially since the choice on PC is not very large now. But it is important to understand: this is a port, not a remaster. The graphics are the same as on PS3, only now the game is in 1080p. However, you should not expect a real “FullHD miracle” – with a close look you can notice stretched icons and other minor flaws.

What’s new and nice about the PC version:
-
Omega Mode with reimagined fighters is available right away;
-
All previously released costumes are included;
-
Support for PS3 arcade sticks;
-
Increased resolution up to 1080p.
Capcom probably rushed things by entrusting the port of the cult fighting game to a third-party studio with little experience. I would have liked a more polished version at the finish line of the “fourth”. But be that as it may, Street Fighter has finally made it to PC – and that’s already great. For those who are not ready to get out their old console for one game, this is a great opportunity to enjoy Ultra Street Fighter IV for another year, until the fifth part appears on the horizon.
