Immerse yourself in the harsh everyday life of prison life, where every decision you make can change the fate of those around you. In Prison Simulator, you play the role of a warden who must restore order behind barbed wire, monitor the schedule, interact with prisoners – and sometimes make a moral choice. Will you become a hero in uniform or lose yourself in the chaos of power and aggression?
This project from the Baked Games studio is a single-player game created for PC, combining elements of a simulator, action and cruel reality. There are no multiplayer modes – you are alone here, and only you determine who to be: a fair guardian of the law or a prison tyrant. The game is available for a one-time purchase and is distributed worldwide.

The name alone makes it clear that PlayWay was definitely involved. These guys have appeared in almost all possible “simulators”, so it’s not hard to guess.
This time we are sent to prison – but not as a prisoner, but as a prison guard. It is you who will control the order, make decisions and delve into the everyday life of a complex system.

It all starts with the settings: choose the name of the correctional facility and create a personal list of prisoners. The editor is quite flexible – you can change the appearance, write names and even write biographies. Of course, I could not resist and added a little DTF spirit to my prison.

Prison Simulator Gameplay
After we’ve sorted out the basic settings and put the prisoners in their places, the first shift begins. We’re not thrown into the fire right away – first we’re given a little time to get our bearings: they explain how to behave with prisoners, how to act in emergency situations, and give us our first task. You need to go around the area, check everyone on the list, and make sure no one has escaped and everyone is in their places.
From the very first minutes, it becomes clear: each prisoner is not just a number in a journal, but a person with their own character, background, and attitude towards you. Some may be quite adequate and even ready to cooperate – they give you access to profitable trade, side quests, or insider information. But there are others – hostile, aggressive, or simply unstable. It’s better not to provoke a conflict with them – one careless step, and you get a riot or an attack in the back. In addition, the prison has a complex social structure. Not only between you and the prisoners, but also within the groups themselves, and in relations between the guards. If someone doesn’t get along with someone, be ready to break up fights, conduct investigations and sort out the consequences.

For example, on the very first day I had to witness a conflict: a prisoner named Apanasik attacked another – Shubkin. He just hit him without saying a word. I tried to calm him down, gave commands, but he ignored everything. Shubkin had doctors called, and we detained the troublemaker. Interestingly, he then tried to pay off the situation with a bribe, as if everything could be solved with a couple of bills. Of course, he was in solitary confinement and faced disciplinary action.
When the first part of the day ends, free time begins. This is not just a rest – it is an opportunity to do something useful:
-
work out in the gym and improve your physical fitness,
-
go to the shooting range to improve your aim,
-
explore the territory and communicate with prisoners,
-
or just rest and skip time until the next task.
Each of these options affects your efficiency and development in the future.
In the afternoon, a new task appears. In our case, it was necessary to escort Apanasik to the punishment cell – as punishment for the morning incident. Everything is strictly according to the rules. After that, another task comes – to inspect the packages received for the prisoners. There are four boxes in the warehouse. We take them one by one, carry them to the table and begin checking. This is not just a formality – each package can contain both harmless things like sweets, books or cans of stew, and prohibited items. You need to carefully examine each thing: something dangerous can be hidden among the innocent contents.
The first package turned out to be clean. But the second one had a surprise: a syringe. Such a find definitely has no place in prison. We remove the prohibited item and file a report. Sometimes we come across strange things that are not prohibited, but raise questions. Then everything is decided at the discretion of the guard – you can skip it or report it to management. When all the tasks of the day are completed, we return to the briefing room. There, our progress is assessed by a mentor or senior officer. Based on the results, they issue a salary, award points, and we move on to the next working day.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg. With each new day, more and more interesting and complex tasks appear in the game. There is a full-fledged leveling system – both for the character and the prison. You can buy equipment, improve equipment, gain access to new opportunities. In addition, the game gradually reveals the dark sides of prison life – internal conspiracies, corruption, illegal trade, drugs, and, of course, large-scale riots.
The bottom line? This is a light, relaxed simulator that is great for relaxing your head. It has enough different mechanics, and the game is captivating at first – you definitely won’t get bored. Of course, over time, the novelty wears off, a certain monotony appears, and there is nothing to be surprised about. But at times when large releases do not catch on at all, it is these modest indie projects that become a pleasant discovery and find a response from players.
