There are few details about the Reapers and the global threat, and the player will receive answers to the most important questions only at the end of the trilogy. It’s a bit of a shame, but not critical: the game is already captivating – all thanks to the charismatic and diverse team.

Each of the recruits is a character with a character and his own story. Although the archetypes are familiar, the development makes them alive. True, bonus sets cannot be changed, helmets are glued to them, which is a bit of a shame if you like to look into the eyes of your Shepard.

You will no longer be able to modify weapons directly in missions. All upgrades are strictly in the lab, according to found or purchased schemes. And not a specific gun is improved, but all of them at once. Ammunition with fire, ice, and other effects have now become active abilities and are available only to individual team members, and not to everyone in a row. Of course, many fans of the first part may consider such a “cleaning” a betrayal. But, you must admit, it is unlikely that a real hero will go through the pockets of every enemy he kills in the heat of battle. And less junk in your inventory means more focus on the plot.
Especially since you still have to do some gathering. In Mass Effect 2, resources are a new currency. Platinum, iridium, and other useful things have to be found on planets using probes. You scan, launch “needles” — and save, save, save. And there may not be enough probes, and the Normandy still needs to be refueled. But it’s not the shooting that we love Mass Effect for. We love it for its cinematography, strong direction, drama, and the ability to influence the plot. Here, you’re not just a spectator, but the main character. And the new dialogue system adds spice: now you can interrupt a conversation at the most inopportune moment – be it a sharp blow to a journalist or saving a partner from a shot. These are small things, but they create a feeling of control and real participation. Combined with excellent graphics, well-developed animation, and strong voice acting, Mass Effect 2 turns into a full-fledged interactive blockbuster that can easily compete with the best films of the genre. And after the final credits, you understand – this was not just an adventure. This was a story in which you lived.

And scanning planets, which is mandatory for collecting resources, quickly turns into a routine: slow, boring and repeated over and over again.

But all of this is just minor rough edges against the main thing. Mass Effect 2 is a story that you want to live. This is a game where every decision you make affects the fate of the team and the entire galaxy. There are no simple choices here – only moral dilemmas, doubts and consequences. Will you be able to save all the crew members? Who will you trust in the finale? It all depends on you. Shepard’s team is the real pride of the second part. Each partner is an individual, with their own history, pains, fears and motivation. Someone evokes sympathy from the first meeting, someone irritates, but none of them leaves you indifferent.
