This smart bird is always ready to guide its owner if he gets lost among the confusing and complex landscapes.

Fortunately, subsequent updates partially corrected the situation, although the feeling of incompleteness still remained. In terms of art style, the game resembles classics like Warcraft 3: bright saturated colors, grandiose architectural structures filled with the smallest details, and characters in massive armor emphasizing their exaggerated muscles. Different monsters have their own behavioral characteristics and tactical requirements: from fast and agile to slow but extremely dangerous. They all pose a real threat, and defeating them always requires skill and endurance. A pleasant feature of the game is the almost complete absence of intrusive QTE scenes, which looks fresh in the slasher genre and makes battles more natural and exciting.

The puzzles we encounter on our journey vary widely in complexity. In the second part, their quantity has increased dramatically, many of them introduced through engaging extra quests. The Horseman of the Apocalypse dashes along walls like a character from Prince of Persia, deftly scaling beams and jumping with incredible agility, all while bending the laws of physics in his relentless quest to crack yet another challenging conundrum. As time goes on, this can become quite draining—having to leap back and forth for hours. Enemies appear less and less often, and they perish alarmingly quickly, leaving us to face yet another chaotic arrangement of beams and planks. The solitude can be overwhelming, as the thrill of combat fades, replaced by the repetitive nature of navigating through these intricate environments.

Despite the abundance of complex details, the game often drags on longer than the player expects. By the middle of the journey, many feel a strong desire to ignore side missions that require re-examining familiar areas and solving additional, sometimes exhausting, puzzles. Paradoxically, the main storyline is perceived as rather monotonous – it boils down to helping various NPCs and obtaining information about the next character who needs support. Manually opening chests and doors can hardly be called an exciting feat, especially when the excitement of the adventure gradually fades under the weight of repetitive tasks. At such moments, ethereal hands come to the rescue, simplifying the process, but at the same time making it less exciting and more and more like a mechanical routine.

Conclusion

Although many concepts in Darksiders 2 are borrowed from other sources, the game still manages to be quite captivating and engaging for players. It’s unfortunate, however, that the developers fell into the same trap again, overloading the game with monotonous puzzles that can frustrate and confuse, making it tough for many players to finish the campaign.
