It seems that The Behemoth studio has seriously set itself the goal of going through all the cult genres of the old school. They embodied their view on beat ‘em up in Castle Crashers, and in the spirit of the immortal Contra they released a lively run and gun — Alien Hominid. They even made a humorous arcade “flyer” for iOS — just like a greeting from the Atari 2600 era.

BattleBlock Theater Free Steam Account
BattleBlock Theater throws you into the thick of madness from the very first minutes. It all starts with a disaster: the ship on which our heroic friends are sailing gets caught in a powerful storm and crashes off the coast of a mysterious island. It would seem that things can’t get any worse… but no. There is no way to rest after the shipwreck – the entire team is instantly captured by the local inhabitants. And these inhabitants are cats. And not just any cats, but the rulers of a totalitarian regime where dialogue is not accepted. The only way out is to go through a crazy and merciless show, as if it came from the screens of dystopias.
But the storm and captivity are just the beginning. The worst is yet to come: the best friend of the main character, a man adored by everyone, has completely gone crazy and now, it seems, works for mustachioed dictators. With a smile, he directs his former friends into deadly trials – all for the sake of spectacle.

For the player, this means only one thing: hundreds of levels with traps, puzzles, and obstacles lie ahead. Your goal is to get to the exit as quickly as possible, collecting precious crystals along the way. These stones are not just points. Between missions, they can be exchanged for freeing comrades languishing in prison cells. For each rescued person, you will be rewarded with a new suit – there is no use for it, but a collector awakens inside, and it is impossible to stop. You want to open them all.
By the way! The entire world of BattleBlock Theater is literally built from cubes. And the characters are also out of this world: square, round, triangular… you can even play in the shape of a star. The more ridiculous – the more fun!
We believe everyone deserves access to free steam accounts.
BattleBlock Theater Gameplay
The goal of the game seems simple: get to the exit, collecting crystals along the way. But in practice, everything is far from easy. At every step you will find traps, pits, deadly saws and, of course, evil cats. These furry enemies are inventive: they jump on your head, kick you, push you into lava and even try to blow you into the abyss with a fan. There is zero cuteness in them, but creativity is over the top.
Fortunately, the developers did not try to turn the game into torture – any failure is not worth the nerves: if you die, you will be reborn right there, without unnecessary suffering.
And you do not have to be a victim. Of course, you can simply fight off the cat’s misfortune, but it is much more fun to use your opponents against themselves. Lure the whiskered ones into their own traps – and watch them fly into the abyss. Yes, the combat system here is not very precise: blows often miss, and hand-to-hand combat is rather annoying. But when you try to carefully throw a cat into a hole, excitement appears, almost sadistic. Sometimes the game throws strange weapons like freeze rays, vacuum cleaners or acid grenades – they are not very convenient to use, but fun to laugh.

And where else can you feed a friend to a giant squirrel with horns?
Although in fact, most of the time you will not fight, but jump – BattleBlock Theater is still a platformer. And jumping here is great. The character is responsive: he reacts to the slightest movements of the stick. He is not as nimble as the hero of Super Meat Boy, but not slow, like in Dead Light. The controls are comfortable, the movements are clear. Even complex jumps are easy and without irritation.
Interesting fact: if you like to create, and not just complete, the game offers a convenient level editor. Make your own maps, post them online, and download other players’ work. BattleBlock Theater is not only a crazy platformer, but also a creative space with a soul.
Top Reasons to Play BattleBlock Theater with Friends
If you’ve ever played Castle Crashers, you know that the real magic of these games is revealed only when a friend is nearby. In BattleBlock Theater, this rule works 100%. Although you can easily complete levels alone, it is in co-op mode that this game turns into a real show – full of joint victories, ridiculous defeats and friendly set-ups.
The level mechanics are adapted for two: there are platforms that are impossible to overcome without a partner, sections where one must lift the other, throw him over a cliff or even accurately throw in the right direction. All this creates a spirit of teamwork … unless, of course, you decide to become a saboteur.

Because BattleBlock Theater is also a playground for good-natured chaos. Here you can and should test the boundaries of what is permitted: set up a partner in a trap, blow him up with a new weapon, leave him alone among enemies – and all this without any consequences. No one will punish you or take away points. On the contrary, you can only laugh together for such antics. At some point, you find yourself entertaining yourself by “accidentally” dropping your friend into the abyss or pushing him into the clutches of hostile cats instead of completing the level. This is pranking elevated to art.
Possibilities for fun in co-op:
-
Throwing a friend over abysses and lifting him onto platforms;
-
Using weapons against each other for fun;
-
Setting your comrade into traps or to enemies;
-
Doing all this over and over again without any penalties.
Now imagine that there are four such hooligans. It is for such cases that the developers have prepared “Arena” — a separate mode with competitive mini-games. Here you can arrange real duels, fight for dominance in the “king of the mountain”, compete in strange, sometimes absurd sports disciplines. Everything happens quickly, noisily and, most importantly, fun. Logic gives way to madness, just like in the good old Nekketsu games that inspired the developers.
At the same time, the game does not forget about solo players. Even if you turned on BattleBlock Theater in proud solitude, it will find something to please you. There is a funny story with charismatic heroes, puzzles and signature madness. But the main star is the narrator. He comments on everything that happens on the screen with such passion, sarcasm and emotion that he literally draws you into this strange theatrical production. In the spirit of The Bard’s Tale, his voice becomes part of the atmosphere and literally brings everything to life.

The gameplay is constantly changing: sometimes you are given a jetpack and sent into the sky, sometimes you are offered to ride a marshmallow monster. There are no repeating levels – each new stage throws you something unexpected. At the same time, none of them drag on: everything is designed so that you do not get tired. This isn’t Super Meat Boy, which tests your endurance and reflexes. BattleBlock Theater is a celebration of the absurd that doesn’t stress you out, but rather entertains you.
As a result, you’re not just passing levels – you’re playing a cartoon where the characters aren’t afraid to be stupid, and the world is weird and fun. After a couple of hours in this theater, you want to applaud standing up – not for the difficulty, but for the joy it gives.
