This emotional connection between the two women is a testament to the depth of their bond and the unwavering support that sustains them in the face of overwhelming adversity. With more exciting content and hero introductions on the horizon, the Overwatch community eagerly awaits the next chapter in this ever-expanding saga. Last year, Blizzard gave us a treat with the release of “A Great Day,” a 2D animated short that gave us a closer look at the villainous Mauga and the shadowy Talon organization. That came in December, but the last time we got a full 3D animated short was back in August 2023 with “Calling,” the Sojourn cinematic that got us hyped for Overwatch 2: Invasion. You could maybe also count the “Perfect Night” music video by LE SSERAFIM from October, but that was a bit different.
Before that, we got “The Wastelander” and “Kiriko” to introduce some of the new heroes for Overwatch 2’s release in 2022. But there was a long dry spell where we didn’t see any 3D cinematics at all. Back in the Overwatch 1 glory days, we’d usually get at least two of these a year – one at BlizzCon and another at Gamescom. So it’s really fitting that “Control,” this newest and most incredible short, is debuting alongside Blizzard’s big return to the major German gaming convention. Needless to say, the response to this animated short has been absolutely incredible. After all the layoffs at Blizzard this year and the apparent death of the PvE mode in Overwatch 2, a lot of us were worried we’d never see another amazing cinematic like this again. But “Control” has given the whole community a renewed sense of hope – hope that Blizzard is still committed to delivering the kind of captivating story content that makes the Overwatch universe so special. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what other tales they have in store for us. Juno’s journey is just getting started, and with the way this short has resonated with fans, I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot more of her. Who knows – maybe we’ll even get lucky and see another full-blown 3D animation before the year is out. Fingers crossed!”
