Japan, Sapporo, the 5th Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) championship is the place where the Canadian Oblivion stack, which has nothing to do with Orgless, pulled out the title of champions with its teeth. It was powerful, really. The Match Point finale turned into a real cinematic mess that lasted for nine whole maps, and, to be honest, until the last moment it was unclear who would take the crown — there were plenty of contenders.

Oblivion line-up winners of ALGS Year 5 in Sapporo

ALGS Year 5 Championship Cup

The ALGS Year 5 winners included Miguel ‘Blinkzr‘ Quiles, Bowen ‘Monsoon‘ Fuller and Brandon ‘FunFPS‘ Groombridge. The guys gathered under the Oblivion banner only in September 2025 — and here is the result. Everyone’s path to this peak is worthy of a separate film, apparently.

Monsoon is generally a legend, in fact. Everyone in the community knows his story: a man went through homelessness and made a name for himself thanks to a crazy mechanical skill. Do you remember that legendary Crab shot by Michael ‘Shroud‘ Grzesiek? It was him. Bowen had previously played for FlyQuest and Complexity, but the main triumph happened right now.

FunFPS is another veteran of the scene who has been in business since 2019. He played for NRG in 2025, XSET and Team Liquid, but the curse of ALGS hung over him for years – the title constantly slipped away at the last moment.

Blinkzr became a real discovery and was officially recognized as the MVP of the tournament. Just think about it: he was in 36th place at the last Year 4 championship, and now he’s the best. Before that, the guy shone in Movistar KOI along with FunFPS. An incredible comeback, let’s just say.

Oblivion’s Path to the Championship through Last Chance

The team entered Sapporo through the Last Chance qualification in the American region in October 2025. At the LAN tournament itself in Japan, everything went, to put it mildly, not smoothly – in the group stage, the squad took only the 19th place out of 40 possible.

The situation was critical. The guys risked being eliminated by ending up in the second round of the lower bracket — a step to the abyss, in fact. But at the crucial moment, Oblivion turned on the gods mode, returned to third place and jumped into the finals. Although all three of them had shone at the World Championships before, it was Sapporo that became the golden one for this trio. It is logical that such a will to win earned them a well-deserved first place.

ALGS Year 5 Finals and the Match Point format at Storm Point

Everything, in fact, came down to a single wild rink at Storm Point as part of the final of the ALGS Year 5 championship. The crazy density of results led to the fact that 10 teams, including Oblivion, reached the match point stage at once – for this, by the way, you need to break the 50-point bar, summing up frags and high places in previous rounds.

Oblivion’s Winning Tactics and $600,000 Prize Pool

Oblivion's Winning Tactics

When the zone began to rapidly collapse in the area of the Pylon, Oblivion competently hid in the bunker, installing Wattson fences and taking, apparently, the top position in the final round. Gradually, the squads began to fly away one after another, and in the end it all resulted in a fierce confrontation between three sides: Supernova, Hotdog Mafia and, in fact, Oblivion, which of all these three were the only ones with match point status.

A real massacre broke out on the northern edge of the field. However, at that moment, there was, frankly, an unprecedented turnaround — Oblivion decided on a daring maneuver, caught their opponents by surprise and took the championship, shooting 13 kills in the process. For such efforts, the guys were given the lion’s share of the total pie of 2,000,000 dollars — as much as 600,000 bucks fell into their pockets, which is good news.

Defeat of Team Falcons and ImperialHal in the Apex Finals

However, Team Falcons, led by ImperialHal, were the first to reach match point in the sixth game. The guys from the Saudi organization got off to an unrealistic start: they brought out the first card on Storm Point with 14 kills and took the second place on Olympus.

But that’s exactly what became their curse — the rest of the players apparently decided to play the long game. The bottom line is simple: at all costs, do not let the Falcons win, delaying time so that others can catch up with the leaders. As a result, by the final batch, Team Falcons took off in 13th place, losing Philip ‘ImperialHal‘ Dosen we were disappointed, which, in fact, Oblivion took advantage of.

Tournament results and the list of ALGS leaders in points

Many people have faced similar pressure. For example, ENTER FORCE.36 got their chance in the seventh game and almost closed the issue on the eighth card, but, by the way, they were knocked out. Virtus.pro right in the final ring.

By the time Oblivion triumphed in the ninth game, the list of match point contenders had grown to obscene proportions. There were GROW Gaming, S8UL Esports, and Crazy Thieves, as well as heavyweights like TSM, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Fnatic’s fan favorites with UNLIMITED.

Curiously, Oblivion not only closed the tournament, but also became the absolute leaders in points, scoring 86 points. Team Falcons had to settle for second place with 75 points, beating ENTER FORCE.36 only in tiebreakers. GROW Gaming, S8UL Esports and Crazy Thieves rounded out the top 6, which is also commendable.
