League of Legends patch 26.17 changes top-lane pressure and melee carries

League of Legends patch 26.17 is now live. Riot reduced several strong top-lane and jungle choices, improved scaling for melee carries and expanded League Classic with more runes and selection tools.
Champion changes target clear strengths and weaknesses
Riot adjusted champions whose results had moved too far from the expected range. The notes explain each change through a direct gameplay problem, such as early lane pressure, reliable damage or limited counterplay. The update does not rebuild the map or replace the core rules. It changes individual values and interactions. Players will feel the largest difference when they use an affected champion or face one in lane. Patch 26.17 followed the previous update on 25 August and is the current live version. Riot focused on top-lane pressure, several melee attack-damage champions and a smaller set of overperforming jungle and mid-lane choices. The update also changed two items and expanded League Classic. These changes replace the earlier 26.16 state rather than preparing a future installation.
Nasus and Vayne were addressed because of top-lane strength. Nasus now gains less life steal from his passive at every threshold. Vayne has more starting health but lower health growth, a higher early mana cost on Tumble and less early damage from Silver Bolts. The changes target lane pressure while preserving more of her late-rank values. League Classic received a broader package. Players gained two more rune pages, rune prices were reduced for many entries, and influence-point and experience gains increased. Riot also added champion and role swapping during selection. The visual work updates lighting and textures while keeping the older identity of Summoner’s Rift.
Bug fixes remove inconsistent interactions
The patch also corrects cases where abilities, items and visual indicators did not behave as described. These fixes matter because a small timing or targeting error can decide a fight. Riot listed the fixes separately from balance changes. A bug fix makes the game follow an existing rule, while a balance change deliberately changes that rule or its numbers. Aurelion Sol received lower mana costs on Breath of Light and a shorter late-rank cooldown on Astral Flight.

Riot presented both changes as a response to the mage adjustments in the previous patch. Cho’Gath also gained ten base damage at every rank of Vorpal Spikes, strengthening early attacks without rewriting the rest of his kit.
Irelia, Qiyana, Yasuo and Yone received scaling help. Irelia’s Bladesurge has a stronger total attack-damage ratio, while Qiyana gained damage on Elemental Wrath but a lower monster modifier. Yasuo and Yone lost part of their critical-strike damage penalty. Riot wants these champions to depend less on building an early snowball. The patch includes bug fixes alongside balance work. These entries correct behaviour such as incorrect damage, range displays or ability interactions. They should not be described as buffs unless the corrected result deliberately raises power. The official notes remain the reference for every exact value and for differences between the main game, Arena, ARAM and Classic.
| Update Area | Confirmed Change |

| Melee Carries | Irelia, Qiyana, Yasuo And Yone Are Stronger Later In A Match |
| Items | Stormrazor Is Stronger; Sundered Sky Is Weaker |
| League Classic | More Rune Pages, Cheaper Runes And Champion-Selection Swaps |
Ranked players receive the update at the same time
The live update applies to normal and ranked queues. Teams do not need a separate download for tournament play on the current client. Players can check the complete numerical list in Riot’s official notes. The summary here focuses on the purpose of the update and avoids turning every small value change into a separate claim.
Several popular champions lost power. Graves received lower bonus attack-damage ratios on both parts of End of the Line. Nocturne lost base health and two armour. Xerath lost base health and five damage at every rank of Arcanopulse. These are direct reductions to early durability or reliable damage rather than new mechanics. The item section is short but relevant. Stormrazor gained five percentage points of attack speed. Sundered Sky lost 50 health and five attack damage after the previous nerf proved too small. Players using those items can compare the new values directly without treating the entire shop as changed.
