Arrowhead Game Studios is preparing to make significant reductions to the file size of their cooperative shooter, Helldivers 2.
The announcement was shared on their official social media channels, where they revealed that the game currently takes up over 140 GB on PC. The developers are actively working to decrease this size to a more manageable level by eliminating unnecessary duplicate assets. According to users on Reddit, the folder for Helldivers 2 contains roughly 30 GB of unique files, while the language packs alone contribute about 400 MB to the overall size.
As for when these changes will be implemented, the team has not provided specific timelines yet. They acknowledged that the presence of duplicate assets might actually help improve load times and optimize the game for players using HDDs.
Helldivers 2 is an engaging cooperative third-person shooter and serves as a sequel to the original Helldivers, a top-down shooter that was released back in 2015.
