Hunting in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is the foundation of Edward Kenway’s progression. Animal pelts, bones, and hides are required to upgrade health, holsters, throwing knives, and smoke bombs. This guide covers the coordinates for all animals—including jaguars, sharks, whales, and crocodiles—alternative acquisition methods via the Great Inagua shop, a complete crafting list, Templar hunts, and the secret behind the “All-Rounder” achievement. Game version: Resynced (current as of July 2026).

Animal Map and Coordinates in Black Flag Resynced
The Caribbean’s wildlife is scattered across the islands. Below, they are grouped by type and coordinates. Use Eagle Vision to highlight animals in red and approach them stealthily; iguanas and rabbits will scatter if startled by noise. The method of the kill does not affect the yield of resources.
Predators: Jaguars, Ocelots, Black Jaguars
Predators are aggressive. Jaguars and boars attack first unless killed with a single shot. The White Jaguar is a specific target in Opía Apito’s quest.
Harpoon hunting for sharks and whales in the ocean
Marine prey can only be hunted using the harpoon from the Jackdaw. Upgrading the harpoon increases damage and allows you to hunt larger fish.
Where to find crocodiles and small animals
Rabbits are the earliest source of pelts. Nassau unlocks in the first chapter; iguanas can also be found there. Crocodiles stay in the water—do not swim up to them.
Buying Hides and Bones Without Hunting
You do not have to hunt animals yourself. Build and upgrade the general store and the treasure merchant at the Great Inagua hideout to Level 2; once done, you can buy hides in exchange for bones at any shop in the Caribbean. The price depends on the resource’s rarity.
What bones are for: Bones drop from every animal you kill. After upgrading the merchant, you can buy them for 5,000 reales each. The system is simple: money → bones → hides. It is expensive, but efficient in the late game when you have plenty of reales but little desire to run around the jungle.
Edward Kenway Crafting and Upgrades Guide

Crafting unlocks after the “This Tyro Captain” mission (Sequence 3). All upgrades are free—they require only resources, not reales. Open your inventory and go to the crafting menu (the anvil icon) to view all recipes.
Health Upgrades (4 Levels)
Each level adds +25 to your health. The first upgrade requires 2 iguana hides. Subsequent levels require crocodile, jaguar, and ocelot hides. The maximum level requires rare resources from the white jaguar and whales.
Pistol Holster Upgrades (3 Levels)
These allow you to carry 2, 3, and 4 pistols, respectively. Level 2 requires 2 rabbit hides; Level 3 requires deer and jaguar hides. You should also upgrade your ammo pouch while you are at it—it never hurts to have extra capacity.
Dart and Smoke Bomb Upgrades
Smoke bombs and sleep darts are crafted using iguana hides and bones. Higher-level versions require capuchin and howler monkey hides. How to get all the keys and the Templar Armor
The Templar Armor offers some of the best damage resistance in the game. To obtain it, you must collect five Templar keys. One is awarded as part of the story: kill Du Casse during the mission “A Single Madman.” The other four are obtained through the “Templar Hunt” side quest chains.
How to start: Reach the end of Sequence 4 and complete the “The Old Cove” quest. At the Great Inagua estate, you will find a locked gate; interacting with it triggers the mission “Good While It Lasted.” Four objectives will appear in your log.
The four hunts:
Each chain consists of four side quests—16 in total. Most involve tailing or assassination missions. Once you have all five keys, return to the gate on Great Inagua to claim the Templar Armor and a legendary trinket.
“Friend to All” Achievement and Friendly Animals
The description for the “Friend to All” trophy lists seven animal species. However, there are actually eight in the game. To unlock the achievement, you must pet or feed all of them:
-
Chicken
-
Cat
-
Parrot
-
Turtle
-
Dog
-
Pig
-
Monkey
-
Cow
Where to find them: You can find most of the friendly animals in Kingston: cats, dogs, chickens, pigs, and cows are all located in the market square and at the port. In Havana, there is a chicken by the haystack near the southeastern viewpoint and a cat down by the docks.
The monkey is a different story. At the Havana docks, near the crates of sugar cane, two men are discussing a monkey named Albert. Dive into the water behind them, swim to the Spanish ship, deal with the guards, and you will find Albert on the central deck. Once rescued, open your inventory, select the pets slot, and assign Albert as your companion. Note: You can also get the monkey for free via the Animus Shop as a ship pet—this counts toward the achievement.
The turtle: found on the beach at Cape Bonavista—dive into the water near the southern lookout tower. Parrots: found in cages at the Havana market.
