It seems that the golden era of crazy experiments in Fortnite is coming to an end — Epic Games has announced the closure of several major game modes at once. This decision followed the shocking news about the dismissal of 1,000 employees of the company. The downsizing trend that has swept the industry has reached the most popular free shooter in the world, forcing developers to reconsider their appetites.

Which Fortnite modes are being closed and at what time?

The reason for the closure sounds pragmatic and even a little sad: Epic admitted that they simply failed to create “something amazing enough” to hold the attention of a wide audience. As a result, three activities fell under the distribution, which could not get out of the shadow of the “Royal Battle”.

Schedule for disabling content:

  • Fortnite Ballistic — will disappear from the game as early as April 16, 2026, along with patch 40.20;
  • Festival Battle Stage — will retire at the same time as Ballistic, so there is almost no time left for the last matches;
  • Rocket Racing — will last the longest, the mode is planned to be permanently disabled only in October 2026.

In order not to miss the moment when Epic Games finally “turns off the switch”, it is worth checking the schedule in advance — the developers have linked disabling each mode to specific technical stages and Fortnite patches.

Exact dates for disabling Fortnite modes in 2026

The schedule is set rigidly: The Ballistic and Festival Battle Stage will cease to exist simultaneously with the release of update 40.20. This will happen on April 16, 2026. On this day, the patch will make changes to the balance of the “Royal Battle” and update the UEFN tools, simultaneously deleting the playlists that have become superfluous. The process will follow the standard scheme: first, the matchmaking queues will be disabled, and after completion of the technical work, the modes will simply disappear from the selection menu. If you still have unfinished quests or you were planning a farewell race with friends, focus on the morning of April 16.

What will be left of Fortnite Festival after April 16

It’s worth making it clear here so as not to scare music fans: the exclusively competitive PvP Battle Stage mode is going under the knife. All other content — the main hub of the Festival and the Jam Stage area — will continue to operate normally. Your music sets, purchased tracks and classic rhythm gameplay will not go away, so you lose only the “battle royale to music” format, but not the very opportunity to rock on stage.

When will Rocket Racing be closed and what will disappear forever

For speed lovers, the deadline has been pushed back to October 2026, but Epic Games is planning a full sweep here too. By this time, not only the official race playlist will disappear from Fortnite, but also all tracks, including custom islands created based on Rocket Racing templates in UEFN.

A brief reminder of the checkpoints:

  • April 16, 2026 is the final farewell to the Ballistic and competitive Battle Stage;
  • October 2026 — closure of Rocket Racing, removal of all tracks and reset of ranked seasons;
  • Up to these dates, the progress, leveling of the combat pass and completing missions work without restrictions.

Content authors using Rocket Racing tools are promised the opportunity to migrate some of the developments to new workpieces, but the old track lines will be permanently deleted. It seems that after these dates, evidence of the existence of the modes will remain only in the archives of broadcasts on Twitch and in old highlights on YouTube. Make the most of the outgoing content while matchmaking is still active.

How the cuts in Epic Games affected Fortnite

Epic Games office workplace

The reduction of staff by 1,000 people is not just a dry statistic, but a powerful blow to the studio’s production facilities. Apparently, the company has decided to focus its remaining resources on key areas, ruthlessly getting rid of the ballast in the form of unpopular services.

“We are grateful to everyone who played,” the developers summed up succinctly in their official statement. However, the Fortnite community is already wondering if purging the modes will be the only consequence of the Epic crisis, or if we should prepare for a slowdown in the release of core content. So far, one thing is clear — the ecosystem of the game has begun to shrink rapidly, leaving room only for those projects that bring real profits.
