September 24th is a game-changing date for the entire trilogy. Creative Assembly and SEGA officially announced Lords of the End Times, an expansion that surpasses anything previously released in terms of content. And for the first time in ten years, you don’t need to own any of the base games to launch the Immortal Empires campaign. Simply purchase one Lord.

What does this mean in practice? A wealth of new content—four Legendary Lords, eight Heroes, 23 units, and 12 Renowned Regiments. And all of this is designed with newcomers in mind, who previously had to shell out hundreds of dollars for access to the sandbox. Now the entry threshold is $8.99. A significant step that could excite both the veteran players and those just starting out in Warhammer.

What’s included in Lords of the End Times

The expansion brings four Legendary Lords, and the choice is, let’s say, not the most obvious. Nagash, the Lord of the Undead, has long been a long-awaited addition to the game. Boris Todbringer is that Emperor’s weirdo with the bearskin. Glotkin is the ogre leader, who loves to eat everything in sight. And Tankvol is a crazy Skaven who fights atop a giant rat-ogre called Boneripper (yes, it’s as crazy as it sounds).

They also come with a wide range of units: Khemric Titans, Verminlords, Putrid Blight Kings, and Celestial Hurricanum. If you’re a fan of Chaos or Undead, there’s plenty to enjoy. Each lord gets their own campaign with unique mechanics, and judging by the leaked details, Tankvol has a whole dungeon-crawling campaign. And that’s not all.

How to access Immortal Empires without the base game

This is the main feature that surpasses all previous DLC. Previously, to play Immortal Empires, you had to buy all three Total War: Warhammer games—around $180. Now, purchasing any of the four Lords individually or the entire bundle automatically unlocks the campaign, even if you don’t own any of the base game. No “buy three volumes and get access.” Simply choose a Lord, pay $8.99, and you’re in the sandbox.

Immortal Empires campaign access

This simplifies entry for newcomers, while simultaneously being a powerful draw for those who’ve long wanted to try Immortal Empires but were stumbling over the price. Creative Assembly, it seems, decided that the only aspect holding the game back was the entry barrier. Now it’s been removed.

Free Update: Neferata and Faction Rework

A patch will be released alongside the DLC release, introducing a new Legendary Lord—Neferata, the Vampire Queen. And this isn’t just “another hero.” The Vampire Counts will receive a complete overhaul: mechanics, skills, and tech trees. Archaon the Everchosen won’t be left out either—his campaign has been rebuilt to accommodate the new End Game scenarios. There are now more scenarios: Chaos Invasion, Vermintide, Nagash Rises—the variety of final threats is now greater. Old campaigns have also had their victory conditions adjusted, so even veterans will find it worthwhile to replay their favorite factions.

Where to buy and how much

Prices have already been confirmed by the developers. Each Lord costs $8.99 (approximately 720 rubles). The full bundle with a 15% discount costs $30.56 (approximately 2450 rubles). The standard platforms are Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. Pre-orders are expected to open in the coming days—approximately, they are already available on the store pages.

For comparison, previous major DLCs were more expensive and provided less content. This one has 52 new items (yes, I counted them), and the bundle gives you all four Lords, all heroes, and units. By the series’ standards, it’s a truly worthwhile package.

What’s next? Creative Assembly’s Other Projects

The studio isn’t forgetting the future. Alongside Lords of the End Times, Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Total War: Medieval III, and Alien: Isolation 2 are in development. Yes, it’s no joke—a sci-fi twist and a return to the Middle Ages are going hand in hand. But those are entirely different stories.

Until then, September 24th. If you’ve been wanting to dive into Immortal Empires but haven’t been able to because of the price, now is the perfect time. A nod to the old school? Perhaps. But the fact remains: Creative Assembly has done something no one expected. And that’s awesome.
