The wuxia-style action RPG Phantom Blade Zero will be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC in September 2026. S-Game has been feeding us bits and pieces of information so far—you know, adaptive bosses that learn on the fly and keep things interesting. Sounds exciting. But now studio head Sulframe Liang (aka Qiwei Liang) has lifted the veil on a much more sophisticated system. It turns out your decisions in side missions can have repercussions in the main story. And it’s not just a simple “good/evil” choice.

The Duality of Wu and Xia: Why the Hero’s Inner World Is More Important Than His Fists
In a recent interview, Liang delved into the wuxia philosophy at the core of Phantom Blade Zero. He divided the concept into two components.
The first is Wu. The outer shell, the martial arts. Everything is clear here: S-Game visited a bunch of martial arts schools, watched tons of classic films, and tried to transfer this flexibility into the game. Judging by the trailers, we already know how to fight beautifully.
The second part is “Xia.” And this, according to Liang, is crucially important. It’s about inner strength. About the character’s ability, even in deep shit, to think not only about their own skin, but also about others. It sounds pretentious, but this is exactly what they promise to turn into a working game mechanic.

How the “code of honor” will break your personal story of revenge
How will this spirit of “Xia” migrate from philosophy to gameplay? Liang explained using the quest structure as an example. The main storyline, he said, is tied to the hero’s personal conflicts. This is your war.
But the side quests are a completely different matter. There, you’re just a passerby. You accidentally meet a stranger who has his own troubles, his own drama. In most RPGs, you’d simply complete a task, gain experience, and move on.
Phantom Blade Zero is different. Liang argues that helping others can trigger the “butterfly effect.” Honorable actions—that is, when you do the “right” thing, following your inner code—can have a real impact on the central storyline, on your own story of “revenge and love.” The developer emphasizes that if you act honorably, the consequences will have a far more far-reaching, almost macroscopic effect on the world and the ending.
No morality sliders on-screen. Just your actions and their unpredictable consequences. It looks interesting, to say the least.
S-Game Against AI Generation
Incidentally, amidst the news about gameplay innovations, it’s worth mentioning the studio’s stance on another pressing issue. S-Game has previously spoken out categorically against the use of generative AI in game development. Therefore, the content in Phantom Blade Zero is promised to be exclusively handcrafted.
