It looks like Capcom is finally ready to give Resident Evil Requiem fans what they’ve been waiting for since its release. A fresh datamine has released a dozen unknown music tracks in the game’s files — and everything indicates that the legendary “Mercenaries” mode will become the mysterious May mini-game that the studio mentioned back in March.

The reason for the new wave of discussions was a post by a Twitter user who unearthed previously unknown compositions in the game files. There is no formal confirmation, but the franchise community made the same conclusion almost simultaneously — and the fans have good reason.

Resident Evil Requiem data center: what exactly was found in the files

The main clue lies not in the names of the tracks, but in their sound. The compositions are not tied to any clear naming system, but they are divided into two suspiciously recognizable groups.
Here are the key findings that have stirred up the community:

  • Tracks 7 and 9 are too brisk and aggressive for a horror story. They have the same arena-shooter drive that the “Mercenaries” have been using for decades.
  • Tracks 3 and 4 — there is a constant ticking below them, like a countdown to an explosion. For a mode built entirely around a timer, it’s impossible to come up with a more transparent hint.
  • The total volume is ten tracks at once, which hints not at a one—time DLC, but at a full-fledged separate mode with its own soundtrack.

For the timer mode, this ticking is actually a digital signature. That’s why a rumor that seemed like a hunch a couple of months ago now looks almost inevitable.

Why is the “Mercenaries” mode the main feature of the franchise?

The Resident Evil series has taught players that the main parts are slow horror and plot tension. “Mercenaries” are the exact opposite: arcade arenas, a hard time limit, special abilities, and combo scoring. No plot, just pure gameplay.

The mode has long been a separate hallmark of the franchise, including thanks to the roaster. Suffice it to recall the remake of Resident Evil 4, where not only Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong could be taken as the timer, but also antagonists like Jack Krauser and Albert Wesker. For many fans, “Mercenaries” is not a bonus, but a full—fledged reason to return to the game for many months after the end credits.

And this is exactly what Requiem, according to the community, is sorely lacking right now.

May 2026: Capcom’s mysterious mini-game takes shape

The context of the leak is perfect. In March, Capcom itself announced a pack of post-release add-ons for Resident Evil Requiem, and one of the items was a loosely named “mini-game” scheduled for May. The players almost immediately assumed that “Mercenaries” were hiding under this wording — now datamine gives guesses a material basis in the form of ten unused tracks.

Why this is critical for the game: without a long-playing mode, any horror storyline quickly loses its audience after passing. If Capcom really rolls out “Mercenaries” in May, Requiem will get exactly the content hook that the franchise has been based on for twenty years. And at the same time, it’s a reason to bring back into the game those who managed to complete the campaign and put the disc on the shelf.

Should we believe the rumors before the official Capcom announcement

It still doesn’t hurt to be careful. So far, we are talking specifically about data mining — the tracks found in the files are not required to be included in the final update build, and Capcom still keeps plans for post-release support for Requiem to itself. The publisher did not confirm either the “Mercenaries” or the specific format of the May mini-game.

So before the official announcement, it is better to treat the find as a very convincing, but still a rumor. On the other hand, May is already on the threshold — and if the ticking in tracks 3 and 4 is true, there are only a few weeks left to wait for an answer. Considering how accurately the dateline coincided with Capcom’s March roadmap, the chances of the Mercenaries returning look higher than ever.
