The tactical shooter Gray Zone Warfare is ready to take a major step forward. The Madfinger Games team revealed details of Update 0.5 at Gamescom 2026, and these aren’t minor balance tweaks, but rather a reworking of key mechanics that will lead players to explore the Null Zone. The release is scheduled for this fall. The main change is that the project will finally move beyond the pre-alpha stage and officially enter alpha status.

Base, Lab, and Reagents: How the New Crafting System Works
The main innovation in Update 0.5 will be a fully-fledged shelter. This is not just a personal bunker for storing loot, but a hub for constructing special modules. Along with this, crafting will be introduced to the game. Unlike Escape from Tarkov, crafting isn’t directly tied to survival—it’s implied by the storyline.
The center of this system will be a chemical laboratory, where players will need to collect necessary drugs and items based on merchant orders:
-
The Lab Rat will send you to make a batch of morphine;
-
The Vulture will order you to synthesize the substance and distribute it to key points on the map;
-
The Master will task you with restoring damaged military technology.
New territories on the Lamanga map
The geography of the conflict will expand—the developers are adding three large-scale locations. The first is the Radar, home to a large complex and dungeons filled with valuable loot. The second zone is the Mental Hospital, an abandoned mansion with a labyrinthine network of corridors that conceals the island’s dark secrets. The third point will be the Military Camp—a fully equipped base right on the edge of the Null Zone.

Separation of PvE and PvPvE and selection of operators
Significant changes are also in store for the gameplay. The developers are completely isolating the PvE mode from PvPvE. Equipment earned in the isolated world will no longer be transferable to the general PvP segment. Furthermore, the character roster will be expanded: instead of three fixed options, players will be able to choose an operator from ten available factions.
Madfinger Games emphasizes that Patch 0.5 is only the initial layer of planned changes. The studio is not in a hurry to reveal more details about the project’s future, but new details may be announced as early as September 3 at 8:00 PM Moscow time during the FPS Games Show broadcast.
