The Portuguese Esports Federation (FPDE) has seriously set out to turn its country into the main esports mecca in Europe — the organization has officially confirmed the extension of the contract with publisher MOONTON Games. This alliance, by the way, is already in its third year and is the foundation of the ambitious Vision 2030 program. The main goal here is very clear — to make Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) a key discipline in the region, and the pace of development is really impressive.

Vladislav Samokha, who oversees the MOONTON esports ecosystem in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, noted that the support of Portugal’s national strategy allows us to show the power of the competitive mobile gaming scene. In general, the partnership is built on a long-term basis. This creates an ideal ground for the growth of local talents, as the federation approaches the matter as professionally as possible.

MLBB Portuguese Cup 2026 Tournament in Warsaw

The most interesting thing, along the way, will unfold in early summer — from June 4-7, the city of Fundo will host the next Portuguese Esports Cup 2026. The program there is going to be huge: the organizers have planned as many as 20 competitions, which will cover 16 different games. The prize money, by the way, will amount to 15,000 euros, which is quite a solid figure for a local event.

It is worth considering that last year’s cup showed crazy statistics — 1.5 million views and more than 230,000 minutes of airtime. As a result, MLBB was recognized as one of the most powerful and sought-after disciplines.

FPDE and MOONTON partnership in the framework of Vision 2030

FPDE President Pedro Honório da Silva says bluntly that cooperation with MOONTON Games has become an important milestone for the federation. According to him, the Portuguese esports market is extremely vibrant and promising right now. In fact, the mobile “league” has proven its wild popularity among gamers, and the task of the federation is to give them a chance to reach the world level.

By the way, Portugal is already actively shining on the international scene — in 2024 and 2025, the national teams went to several major MLBB tournaments. It is important to recall that the game was included in the grid of the first Nations Cup in esports (ENC). This will probably boost the competition even more.

Although, to be honest, there were some annoying moments. In the recent qualification for the IESF World Esports Championship 2025 – Europe Qualifier, the Portuguese stopped just a step away from a World Cup ticket. The guys took the fourth place — first they stumbled in the semifinals against the Turks, who eventually became champions, and then, unfortunately, lost the match for the bronze medal to the Romanian national team. It’s a shame, of course, but the squad definitely has potential.
