The first Minecraft Dungeons was released in 2020 and sold over 25 million copies, becoming one of the most successful “diablo-like” games in recent years. And now Mojang Studios, together with Double Eleven, have officially unveiled a full—fledged sequel trailer – and it won’t be long now.

Release date of Minecraft Dungeons II and target platforms

The sequel to the cube action RPG with roguelike elements will be released on September 29, 2026. The game will reach PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Original Switch and PC. The rumors that appeared the other day have been confirmed — the release is indeed scheduled for autumn.

Gameplay features and new action RPG mechanics

According to the developers, we are in for an “exciting new adventure” with much more serious challenges. We will have to leave the pickaxe in the mine — we take the sword in our hands to fight back against the impending crisis. The gameplay of the project is still similar to Diablo, but they promise a deeper combat system and fresh mechanics. The cooperative has not gone away — you can invite friends and go through everything together. Tellingly, the recognizable cubic style will remain, but the battles will become denser and more dynamic.

The main differences between the sequel and the first part of Minecraft Dungeons

The original Dungeons was based on an elementary cycle: I ran into the corridor, knocked out loot, and came out. There were no classes in principle — the whole build was dictated by the equipment. The sequel seems to have decided to reinvent the bike, and is doing so quite radically.

Minecraft Dungeons II world

Seamless open world and Sulfur Cube physics

The main change is the complete abandonment of the capsule mission hub. In Minecraft Dungeons II, the regions are soldered into a single open world. Transitions from biome to biome now happen right on the go, without annoying loading screens. The pace of the game is changing dramatically, the routes of the sessions have become non-linear.

Another new mechanic is the Sulfur Cube. It’s not just an object, but a physical object that behaves like an elastic ball. I threw it into a crowd of mobs and got a ricochet. With his help, you will have to solve spatial puzzles and zone the arena. If earlier everything rested on spam artifacts, now normal physics is added.

Character Classes Complex AI and Game Pass entry

The authors also got confused with pumping. The interface has not been fully displayed yet, but the editors of StopGame have already confirmed the presence of classes. Finally, it will be possible to assemble a classic warrior, mage or archer with their own characteristics.

The difficulty will be noticeably reduced. The developers explicitly promise a hardcore course: ordinary opponents will become vicious, and bosses will receive complex attack patterns (you will have to monitor the positioning). Lazily pressing one button will no longer work.

The visual has been significantly tightened, which is logical. The first part was done with an eye on the PS4 and Xbox One. The novelty is being sharpened for the latest hardware — PC, PS5, Xbox Series and the upcoming Switch 2 (which is why the lighting has become dynamic, and the glowing Sculk blocks in the dungeons look so cool). And yes, subscribers will pick up the game in the Game Pass right on the day of release.

Pre-order price of Minecraft Dungeons II and edition bonuses

Pre-orders are already open. There will be no early access, but the Deluxe Edition includes a Soul Cloak, a Bubble, four hero skins, as well as add—ons 1 and 2. If you place an order now (before release), you will additionally receive two unique skins, a “Twisted” cape and a chicken pet in the same style. Cute and creepy at the same time.

The exact price has not yet been announced. But for reference: the original Minecraft Dungeons cost $ 19.99 at the start (about 1,600 rubles at the current exchange rate). It is unlikely that the sequel will be much more expensive, although surprises are possible given the scale.

By the way, the first part sold over 25 million copies, which is a serious claim. So those who wish can already take a closer look at the pre-order: the bonuses are quite tasty, and there are only a few months left to wait.
