The publisher and copyright holder was listed as Nintendo of America, the year of production was 2026, and the rating assigned was “not recommended for children under 12 years” due to graphic violence. The page was removed shortly after publication, but users managed to save screenshots. There has been no official announcement yet, but given that the rating has already been assigned, one is not far off. And here’s where things get interesting.

Details of the Brazilian Game Registry Leak

The Brazilian registry isn’t the first time a classification body has leaked a game before it’s announced. This time, the entry contained the following parameters:

  • Original title: Metroid Ravenous
  • Country of origin: USA
  • Production year: 2026
  • Producer and distributor: Nintendo of America
  • Proposed rating: 10+, assigned: 12+
  • Content descriptors: violence
  • Process number: 08017.001246/2026-7

Brazilian journalist Necro Felipe Lima added that the classification was based on 41 minutes of gameplay footage provided by Nintendo. However, different sources contain discrepancies regarding the age rating: some list the local rating as 10+, others as 12+. In the Brazilian system, 10+ is equivalent to the ESRB rating of 12+, so there is no contradiction here: the game is intended for a teenage audience.

The significance of the Ravenous subtitle for the plot

The title of the new game is the main clue for fans. “Ravenous” translates to “voracious” or “insatiable.” In the context of Metroid, this could refer to several things:

  • A direct connection to Raven Beak, the main antagonist of Metroid Dread. His name translates to “Raven’s Beak,” and the new subtitle could indicate a direct continuation of the story arc.
  • The parasitic nature of Metroids—they literally “devour” life energy.
  • A possible evolution of Samus herself—after the events of Dread, she gained Metroid powers, and “insatiability” could refer to her.

Nearly five years after the release of Metroid Dread—which was released in October 2021—this is enough time for a full-fledged sequel.

Platform and developer of the new exclusive

The developer is not specified in the documents—only Nintendo of America is listed. However, most sources agree that it’s a 2D game in the style of Dread, and is being developed by the Spanish studio MercurySteam. MercurySteam has already worked on Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS and Metroid Dread for Switch.

However, there are some complications. In May 2026, MercurySteam implemented layoffs after their last project, Blades of Fire, failed to meet expectations. The studio also faced accusations of a toxic work culture, with employees complaining of 10-hour workdays and layoffs. So, MercurySteam’s involvement in the new project is currently in question.

Platform: Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo is preparing a new console, and Metroid Ravenous will therefore be one of the titles for it. This is supported by the production year (2026) and the fact that Dread was released on the original Switch near the end of its life cycle.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s Release Impact

Important context: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was released in late 2025 and sold nearly a million copies. If Ravenous does indeed arrive in 2026, that would mean two major series releases in two years—an unprecedented feat for Nintendo, which previously went 10+ years without a Metroid installment.
