Alkimia Interactive released a hotfix on August 5th for Gothic Remake, fixing three bugs that were blocking progression: a ring issue, Milten disappearing, and the inability to loot quest items from corpses. The update is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Gothic Remake receives a fix allowing players to complete the game.

When Update 1.0.4 was released last week, players breathed a sigh of relief—hundreds of fixes, rebalancing, and performance improvements. But within a couple of days, the forums were filled with cries of “I’m stuck!”, “Milten won’t move!”, “The rings aren’t working!” The developers at Alkimia Interactive heard the news and quickly released a hotfix. It was released on August 5th and fixes exactly what the patch broke.

What Broke in Update 1.0.4?

The patch arrived on PC on July 31st, and consoles received it a day later, on August 1st. Everything seemed fine: crashes were fixed, dialogue was tweaked, stability was improved. But along with this came three new “gifts” that turned the gameplay into a survival quest.

A bug with rings: a second ring of the same type was ignored or canceled the bonus of the first. Strength, agility, defense—everything went down the drain. According to IGN, this was a regression after the duplicate stats fix. They fixed one, but broke another. It’s a shame.

Invisible Milten: in Chapter 3, the mage stopped appearing at the lighthouse. I was stuck in the Old Camp, unresponsive to dialogue, and Gori and Diego pretended to know nothing. The plot was at a standstill.

Unpickable items: after enemy deaths, corpses decomposed, and key items disappeared along with them. Without Tarrok’s trophies, you can’t complete Ulu-Mulu, without Shaman’s gems, you can’t complete the Temple of the Sleeper. A dead end.

What the Hotfix Fixed?

The developers didn’t drag it out. Five days and it’s ready.

Rings are working again. Bonuses now stack correctly, regardless of the combination of jewelry. No surprises—just the numbers they should be.

Milten is back. The encounter at the lighthouse starts normally, without any console hassles. Previously, players spent up to 15 minutes teleporting NPCs using mods—now it’s no longer necessary.

Quest items—even from decaying corpses. This is the most important thing. You can now loot trophies and gems even from bodies that have already begun to decompose. Those who rushed and didn’t collect everything at once finally have a chance to reach the end. And this isn’t a cosmetic fix—it’s a direct route to the credits.

What’s Next for Gothic Remake?

Alkimia Interactive is keeping quiet about future updates. But the current hotfix addresses the most pressing issues. If you’ve put off playing due to bugs, now’s the time to return. The game will no longer be interrupted halfway through.

In the two months since its release (the remake came out in early June), the studio has released several patches. This isn’t just a tribute to the original—it’s real-time bug fixing. Judging by the pace, the developers are keeping their finger on the pulse. And that’s encouraging.
