Blackmill Games shows no signs of slowing down. The studio behind the gritty Verdun, Tannenberg, and Isonzo has announced the fourth installment in the series, Gallipoli. And the date is already set: the game will launch on May 21st on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store). The wait isn’t long.

Release Date and Platforms

The developers have confirmed the release date: May 21st. Current-gen consoles and PC are eligible, with no discounts. Crossplay is promised from the very start, so platform differences won’t be a concern. Importantly, the game is being released as a full release, not as an Early Access title.

What’s Different About Gallipoli

While the previous installments revolved around the Western and Eastern Fronts, the new game takes us to the Middle East. The plot revolves around the Entente’s attempt to knock the Ottoman Empire out of the war through a sweeping expedition. The plan fails. Instead of a quick victory, there’s a four-year battle on the beaches of Gallipoli and in the deserts. The game will showcase something the series has never seen before: landings under fire, sandstorms, and battles in urban ruins.

Battle, desert, storm, war

“What began in continental Europe could hardly end there,” is how the studio describes the atmosphere. And indeed, the war in the Middle East feels different.

Key Features (and Why This Isn’t Another Battlefield Clone)

  • Authenticity down to the last detail—maps, weapons, uniforms, even the music of the period. Choose your side: the British Empire or the Ottoman Empire. No fictional prototypes.
  • Four biomes in one campaign—coastal dunes, dry desert, urban areas, and more. More variety than Isonzo.
  • Realism, not arcade—weapons with slow reloads, suppressive fire, dusty lenses during shelling. One shot often decides everything.
  • Squad multiplayer – choose a class (machine gunner, sniper, medic, officer) and work as a team. Without the support of a squad, survival is almost impossible.

If you’ve played Verdun or Tannenberg, you’ll understand the mechanics right away. But Gallipoli promises the most diverse landscape in the series. And yes, crossplay between consoles and PC is rare for such projects. Blackmill Games decided not to split the audience.

In short: May 21st, get your shovels and gas masks ready. Turkey, 1915, British landings and Ottoman machine gun nests – this is going to be brutal.

How will bots and classes work in Gallipoli?

The developers have added an important detail: AI bots can appear on your side in public matches. Solo players will have a slightly easier time – the artificial intelligence will cover their back. This feature can be disabled in custom lobbies if you prefer to fight only against humans.

Battlefields are more than just scenery. Here you’ll find landings on the beaches of Gallipoli alongside ANZAC soldiers, street battles in ruined Ottoman cities, and attacks across no man’s land under the scorching sun. The campaigns are divided into two theaters: Gallipoli and Mesopotamia. This adds variety, something that was lacking in previous installments.

Squad mechanics are the foundation of survival. You choose one of the classes, and each one has a real impact on the outcome. The officer commands, the machine gunner lays down fire, the medic carries first aid kits. Without coordinated teamwork, you’ll simply be picked off one by one.

Weapons, Mentality, and Realism

Now, to what people love about this series. Rifles and machine guns have significant recoil. Reloading is methodical, unlike in Call of Duty. And there are two nuances rarely seen elsewhere: your mental state and familiarity with a particular weapon affect accuracy and speed. The more you use the same rifle for a long time, the better you get. Come under heavy fire, your hands shake, your aim falters.

The arsenals are authentic. The British Empire versus the Ottoman Empire—no prototypes. Just like in 1915.

Where to next?

Gallipoli is the fourth installment in the series, but not the last. The developers clearly intend to take players across all the key fronts of the First World War. The series already includes:

  • Verdun—the trenches of the Western Front
  • Tannenberg—the Eastern Front, key sectors
  • Isonzo—the Alpine Front, mountains and cliffs

Each game offers its own slice of hell. Gallipoli will add the Middle East.

At the end, there’s a new trailer with the release date. Check it out; they beautifully show the landings and desert firefights. We’re expecting it on May 21st.
