The console versions of Dune Awakening have gone gold and will release on September 22, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Available on Game Pass from day one, the game offers a single-player campaign, the finale of the Book One arc, 60 FPS, and adapted controls. Pre-orders are now open.
Console players can finally breathe a sigh of relief: Funcom has officially confirmed that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Dune Awakening have gone gold. This is not just a formality—development is fully complete, and the September 22, 2026, release date will be fixed. There will be no sudden delays, as happened with the PC version last year.
And, by the way, along with the console release, all platforms will receive a major update. It will add a full single-player mode and the conclusion of the Book One story arc—something fans have been waiting for since the announcement. But that is not all.

Dune Awakening release date for PS5 and Xbox Series
For those unfamiliar: the Gold Master is the final build, which is sent to be printed and uploaded to digital stores. However, this does not mean the developers will sit back and wait until the release. They could very well release a Day One patch to iron out any minor issues. The main thing is that the date is locked in, and Funcom will not be playing the “let us push it back a month” game anymore. Considering the studio already delayed the PC release, console gamers are especially happy about this news.
By the way, the PC version was released back in June 2025 and over the course of a year has acquired new locations, weapons, enemies, and story chapters. Now this entire wealth of content is available on consoles from day one. And this, you will agree, is a serious argument for purchasing.
Features of the Dune Awakening Console Version
Let us run through the main features—there are many, and they are all important.
Platforms — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 will have a physical release with bonuses inside the box, which will please collectors.
Xbox Game Pass Support and Crossplay
Game Pass — the game will be available for download via subscription from day one. So Xbox owners can save money and avoid purchasing it separately.
Xbox Play Anywhere and Crossplay — progress and saves are synced between Xbox and PC (Microsoft Store). However, you will not be able to play with friends on PS5—crossplay is only available within the Microsoft ecosystem. The developers have clearly stated this, so keep this in mind when choosing a platform.
Book One Single-Player Campaign and Story Finale
Single-Player Mode — a full-fledged campaign that you can play at your own pace, without worrying about other players. Adjustable difficulty is a nice bonus for those who simply want to enjoy the story.
Story — We finally learn how Book One ends. This is an important milestone, as many were waiting for the conclusion of the first chapter.
60 FPS Graphics and Gamepad Controls
Graphics and Controls — two modes: Performance (60 FPS, enabled by default) and Quality (more detailed graphics, but 30 FPS). The controls and interface have been completely redesigned for gamepad use, making the experience noticeably more comfortable.
Pricing and pre-order — the Standard ($49.99), Deluxe ($69.99), and Ultimate ($89.99) editions are now available for order at console retailers.
As you can see, Funcom clearly focused on making the console launch a standalone event, not just an add-on to the PC release. And rightfully so.
Key differences between the console and PC versions
According to studio head Rui Casais, the console version is “not a port, but a better version of the game.” Why? It incorporates all of the PC year-long content, but is tailored for console features: two graphics profiles, gamepad controls, and fast loading times on PS5. The only limitation is cross-play within the Xbox ecosystem only. But if you are playing on Xbox or PC from the Microsoft Store, you will not have any problems.

By the way, Funcom has another map planned — Polar Cap, promised for the end of 2026. But that is a whole other story, and we will cover it separately.
Which edition of Dune Awakening should you buy
If you are an Xbox owner, feel free to use Game Pass — it is the most cost-effective option. Pre-orders for PS5 owners are already open; the standard edition is reasonably priced, and the physical disc with bonuses could be a nice addition to your collection. And most importantly: September 22nd is the final date; there will be no further delays.
All that is left is to wait for the sands of Arrakis to welcome console players. We are eagerly awaiting it.
