The Japanese publisher delivered a quarter that analysts are calling stunning: revenue jumped 55%, shares soared, and the CFO essentially confirmed the development of a Pragmata sequel. The key driver? PC.

The PC gaming market continues to gain momentum, and Capcom’s financial report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 is the best proof of that. The Japanese publisher reported record numbers, and the main news isn’t just the 55% revenue increase, but where that money came from. 60.4% of all Capcom game sales now come from PC. Consoles account for 32.9%. These aren’t just statistics—they represent a change of era.

And that’s not all. Digital sales reached 93.3%. Physical media accounted for just 6.7%. And against the backdrop of Sony’s recent announcement to cease disc production for PlayStation in 2028, these figures are especially telling. Consumers are voting with their rubles, and their choice is clear.

PC has overtaken consoles: 60.4% of sales are on computers

This isn’t a new trend, but its acceleration is impressive. Capcom has been showing steady growth in its PC share of overall sales for several quarters in a row, and the current report is clear confirmation that the computer platform has become a priority for the publisher. 60.4% versus 32.9% for consoles—a gap that’s hard to ignore.

Steam PC game sales

The reasons are clear: Steam remains the largest digital storefront, the PC gaming experience has long surpassed consoles in flexibility and graphical capabilities, and digital distribution brings publishers a significant revenue stream without the costs of disc production and logistics.

The battle between physics and digital is essentially over. Sony has realized this, and Capcom has confirmed it.

A Record Quarter: 23.81 Million Units Sold and a 70% Increase in Profit

Now for the dry, yet impressive, numbers.

For the three months ending June 30, 2026, Capcom exceeded its own expectations across all key metrics:

  • Net revenue: ¥70.41 billion ($429.5 million), up 54.7% year-over-year
  • Operating profit: ¥41.05 billion ($250.1 million), up 66.9%
  • Net profit: ¥29.16 billion ($177.5 million), up 69.2%
  • Total profit: ¥41.45 billion ($252.5 million), up 81.1%

Total game sales reached 23.81 million units, up 68% from 14.16 million units in the same period last year. And this, mind you, isn’t the Christmas season. Summer is typically a slow quarter for the gaming industry.

Toyo Research Advice Co. analyst Hideki Yasuda called this result stunning in an interview with Bloomberg:

I’ve never seen results exceeding 20 million copies, even during the peak Christmas season. I take my hat off to what Capcom has achieved during a period of the year typically associated with slower sales.

The full-year forecast remains unchanged: revenue of 210 billion yen, operating profit of 83 billion yen.

Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata are the main growth drivers

Two games drove Capcom’s phenomenal results: Resident Evil Requiem and the new IP Pragmata.

Resident Evil Requiem, released back in February, continues to reap the rewards: over 8 million copies have been sold to date. In April, it sold 7 million copies—another million in three months, a solid result for a game that’s no longer new.

But the biggest sensation was Pragmata. Capcom’s sci-fi action game, released on April 17, 2026, has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. The pace is impressive:

  • 1 million copies in 2 days
  • 2 million copies in 16 days
  • 2.5 million copies in 2.5 months

Pragmata became the quarter’s bestseller, narrowly beating Resident Evil 4, which added another 2.43 million copies to its sales.

Catalog sales also hit a record: 21.26 million copies, up from 13.36 million in the previous quarter. Devil May Cry 5 has achieved cumulative sales of 14 million copies, Street Fighter 6 – 60 million.

Is Pragmata 2 on the Horizon? CFO Statement

This is where the story takes an unexpected turn.

Capcom CFO Yoshikazu Shimauchi stated in an interview with Bloomberg that the likelihood of a Pragmata sequel is very high. The game exceeded the company’s internal projections, and Capcom now views it as a potential landmark franchise and a source of long-term revenue.

Pragmata Diana character art

Shimauchi particularly praised the pre-release marketing and the character of Diana, an android girl who became one of the game’s main revelations and was warmly received by millions of fans.

The likelihood of a Pragmata sequel is very high.

This is Capcom’s first official statement about a sequel. And while no exact timeframe is being given, new clues for fans have already emerged – the ending of the first game leaves plenty of room for further plot development.

Pragmata was released on April 17th on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game received high praise from critics (85-89% on Metacritic) and players (96% positive reviews on Steam). Capcom is now developing a sequel. Therefore, PC will remain a target platform—and that’s great news for millions of PC gamers worldwide.
