The developers of Battlefield 6 got in touch again — and this time without hints, but with specifics. New maps, long-promised features and an improved destruction system: all this will be in the game. The only question is when exactly.

Enough time has passed since the release in October to compare the BF6 with its unsuccessful futuristic predecessor. And yes, the situation is clearly not so gloomy. But at the end of May, part of the community was still complaining: key features were missing, and a bunch of bugs hadn’t been fixed. Perhaps that’s why Battlefield Studios released another developer diary just 10 days after patch 1.3.1.5. It’s like they’re trying to catch up with expectations.

Naval battles and new maps in Battlefield 6

The main news is naval battles on two maps. Tsuru Reef and the updated Wake Island will be added to BF6. The first one, judging by the description, will surpass the legendary Golmud in scale. Water skirmishes will become a decoration, but also a part of the gameplay — you can check this in the tests of Battlefield Labs this month.

Wake returns to the series, but not in museum form. The developers promise to preserve the “identity” of the map, while thoroughly modernizing it. It sounds like an attempt to please both veterans and newcomers.

Release dates for proximity chat and server search

Fans have been asking for proximity chat, server search, platoons, and leaderboards for months (if not since the release). The first one will appear only at the end of the fourth season. Server search is in the fifth. The rest is in progress, but the priority is high.

Ranking matches are also in the plan — without a specific date, the phrase “when they are ready” hints that they will not rush. But in the third season, another map will be added — “Cairo Bazaar”, plus the existing arenas will be tightened.

In short: there will be a sea, chat nearby, search for servers later. Battlefield 6 is slowly moving towards the state that was promised at the start. The only question is how much patience the players have.

Battlefield 6 Update Roadmap and Seasons

Fresh question-answering sessions and fresh DICE developer diaries have finally shed light on how the shooter will survive in the coming years. The content support plan is scheduled by quarter — the studio is preparing three full-fledged seasons with confirmed content, as well as a pack of features with an open release date.

Here’s what the update schedule looks like, if you put it on the shelves.:

  • Season Three (Q2 2025): A new Cairo Bazaar location will be added to the game. At this stage, the developers will focus on large-scale polishing and refinement of existing maps that players have complained about.
  • The fourth season (Q3 2025): Two locations will be added to the site roster at once — Tsuru Reef and Wake Island. One of the key features is a full—fledged sea transport, the launch of proximity chat closer to the season finale and the launch of the first tests based on Battlefield Labs.
  • Season five (Q4 2025): The names of the maps are still being kept secret, but the long-awaited server browser has been announced. Together with it, they promise to roll out advanced destructibility of objects.

  • Releases with no exact date (2026+): The entire hardcore competitive layer flew here — full-fledged rating matches, functionality for creating platoons and global leaderboards.

Why DICE delayed the server browser and chat?

This order of priorities raises a lot of questions, because proximity chat and classic server search are literally a mandatory hygienic minimum for any online action movie. The strangest thing is that the authors decided to stretch these tools for as many as two full seasons. This approach looks like a dubious solution compared to competitors. The same Battlebit Remastered offered a convenient web server browser right at the start, and in Hell Let Loose all these mechanics were functioning stably even before the official release from early access. Battlefield 6 has managed to come out without basic functionality — and right now it is naturally paying for this with a serious outflow of an active audience.

Levolution Destruction System and Labs Tests

On paper, the plans for the fifth season look much more cheerful than it might seem at first glance. The large—scale destructibility of individual objects claimed by the developers is not just cosmetic chips on walls or holes in fences after explosions. Apparently, DICE plans to return to the ideas of a full-fledged Levolution system from the legendary BF4, where entire buildings collapsed and completely changed the geometry of the map and the trajectory of movement right in the middle of the match.

However, running such mechanics in marine locations with dynamic shelters is still a headache for the guys responsible for the balance of power. This is exactly what the authors will need the Battlefield Labs site for the fourth season. It will collect the first player reviews so as not to completely break the game.

Why is there no Ranked date in the Battlefield 6 plans?

The most serious and obvious failure of the entire roadmap can be safely called the lack of clear deadlines for rating matches. Ranked mode keeps the most engaged and paying audience much more effectively than packs of skins from seasonal passes or new camouflage. Without a sane competitive system, progressive—minded gamers are turning to competitors like Modern Warfare or Warzone – and bringing them back from there to the EA ecosystem will be a hell of a challenge.

DICE Studio’s responses to criticism from shooter fans

New maps and naval battles are not everything. Battlefield Studios then rolled out the results of a large Q&A, where the team sorted out more than a thousand questions from the community. In the public part, they drew a line under almost 60 of them.

The answers came out differently: some specifics, some evasive “let’s think about it”, and a couple of points were completely ignored.

The balance of grenades and the mechanics of destroying objects

The developers have worked out some topics in detail. For example, the balance of classes and the return of the mechanics of dropping grenades. The answer is this: the idea is interesting, tests at Battlefield Labs are possible, but there are no promises yet.

Destructibility of maps? Yes, in the fifth season, individual objects can be “significantly destroyed” — it sounds promising.

By the way, the horn was fixed — the one that refused to work on the controllers. It’s a small thing, but it feels good.

Features of crossplay on consoles

The players asked about strictly console crossplay (so as not to overlap with the PC). There is almost no hope for this. But the developers clarified: the selection system is now trying to bring console players together as much as possible.

Authors’ reaction to complaints about the pace of updates

The most poignant moment: the studio was reproached that Battlefield 6 is developing too slowly. The answer came out in a streamlined manner — without deadlines or specific names. But the players appreciated at least that the question was not silenced. By the way, the general perception of the roadmap is rather positive.

The main drawbacks of EA’s new roadmap

It was not without its negativity. Most of the complaints are about features that, according to the community, should have been in the game from the very beginning, but will appear only in the second half of the year — for example, server search.

There is no answer about disabling crossplay on the PC and weakening the transport. It ‘s annoying .

But if you look at the comments under the studio recording, cautious optimism prevails there. People are tired of demanding and are glad that they are at least being heard. Another thing is that I would like to hurry up — the pace of updates is still not encouraging.
