Insider Jorraptor has once again stirred up the community: according to him, Ubisoft is preparing a story expansion for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, entirely dedicated to Edward Kenway. The remake was released on July 9th on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and now the developers have apparently decided to go beyond simply updated graphics—they want to expand the legendary pirate’s story. But not all fans are thrilled: many fear that, thirteen years later, attempting to “complete” the canon will only damage the image of one of the series’ most charismatic assassins.
Remarkably, the game itself has already sold over 3 million copies, and last week, patch 1.0.6 was released—and that’s where things get interesting. The update arrived on August 4th, took up between 1.8 and 15 GB depending on the platform, and, incidentally, brought several crucial fixes. You can finally hide that ever-present blowpipe—just go to the equipment menu and toggle the Show Gear option. Many players have been waiting for this, and the developers, as if listening to persistent requests, have added this feature. Furthermore, the number of autosaves has been increased from five to ten, and on PC, a silly bug with cutscenes that stuck at 30 FPS has been fixed. In short, the game has been technically polished—but what about the content?
Jorraptor himself cites an interview with director Richard Knight, in which he confirmed that New Game+ is in active development and “at the top of the priority list.” But you can say goodbye to multiplayer and the Freedom Cry expansion—they won’t be in the remake, and that’s official. The Hidden Blade fight, which many had hoped to see reworked, is also still in question: Knight cautiously noted that he “can’t promise anything”—apparently, the mechanics’ implementation requires significant refinement. Mission replayability, which is a given, is also only being discussed, and, according to the developers, the Anvil engine doesn’t yet allow for it without extensive rework.
But the main news is, of course, the Edward DLC. An insider claims that the story arc will be new, unrelated to the original, and will add approximately six hours of gameplay. However, there’s been no official confirmation from Ubisoft, and this is the only aspect that the community is more concerned than excited about. Recalling the publisher’s recent narrative experiments, fans rightly fear that Edward could be turned into a pawn in yet another dubious plot twist.
Incidentally, in the same interview, Knight mentioned that Ezio and Altair’s costumes are planned for future updates, but there are no dates yet. So this whole flurry of information—both confirmed and rumored—creates a rather strange picture: on the one hand, Resynced has received a solid patch and is preparing for development, but on the other, Edward’s fate is up in the air.
Therefore, Ubisoft will likely make an official statement in the coming weeks, but for now, all we can do is follow the news and hope that this experiment doesn’t end in failure. In any case, you can hang up now—and this is perhaps the best news of the day.
