The Story of a Soldier-76
According to the official ENT, the name “Soldier-76” is just a pseudonym. The real name of the hero is John Francis Morrison, his friends just called him Jack. His fate is closely intertwined with the history of the Overwatch organization.
John Morrison was born into a farmer’s family and grew up in the quiet American town of Bloomington. When he turned eighteen, he joined the U.S. Armed Forces. From the very first days, the guy proved himself to be a determined and brave soldier. For his valor, he was invited to take part in the secret Soldier improvement program. The government’s experiments significantly enhanced his physical abilities — that’s when the future Soldier-76 began to form.
Together with his comrade-in-arms Gabriel Reyes, Morrison participated in the suppression of the Uprising of the machines. It was then that they joined the newly formed Overwatch organization. The first strike force included the best: Morrison, Reyes, knight Wilhelm Reinhardt, sharpshooter Ana Amari and engineer-inventor Thorbjorn Lindholm. Together, the heroes defeated an army of robots, and Overwatch became a symbol of hope and peace. Later, John Morrison became the head of the organization.
However, Morrison’s leadership caused internal conflict. Reyes, once his close friend, felt deprived of recognition. Envy and resentment formed the basis of the future confrontation.
Over the years, Overwatch has been accused of corruption, abuse of power, and human rights violations. The source of many of the problems was the secret division of Blackwatch, which was run by the same Reyes. Blackwatch’s activities have led to the banning of Overwatch in several countries, including the United Kingdom.
Despite this, Morrison insisted on the participation of his fighters in the operation to suppress the uprising on King’s Row. This decision cost the organization dearly and was one of the reasons for its decline.
The conflict between Morrison and Reyes ended in tragedy — a powerful explosion destroyed the Overwatch headquarters in Switzerland. Both heroes were considered dead, because their bodies were never found under the rubble.
Five years have passed. The world has once again heard about the mysterious fighter hiding his face under a mask. His name was Soldier 76. No one knew who he was, but the former agents guessed that John Morrison was alive. He carried out daring attacks on bases associated with the past of Overwatch, and acquired an improved weapon — the same pulse rifle.
Now Soldier 76 seeks to find out the truth about the fall of Overwatch and bring back the team. In search of answers, he traveled to Egypt, where he found not only his old friend Ana Amari, but also a former friend who turned into a Reaper. Ana helped John survive this fight and became his ally again.
So Soldier 76 continues his journey, a soldier who has lost everything except his faith in justice.
Progress
Jack Morrison showed all the charm of leadership during the Rise of the Machines — it was he who managed to rally the fighters, inspire them and lead them to victory over soulless robots.
Under the command of Soldier 76, the Overwatch organization experienced a flourishing era: serious scientific discoveries were made, and advances in medicine and technology were achieved. Morrison personally trained new agents, imparting to them the spirit and ideals of the team.
During the mission in Dorado, Soldier 76 got into a fight with the Los Muertos gang. Although the intruders managed to escape, the hero managed to save the child — and this earned him respect even among opponents.
Soldier-76’s Abilities and Weapons in Overwatch
Soldier 76 is a top fighter capable of dealing damage to the enemy with his arsenal. He moves quickly, thanks to his sprinting ability, which allows him to change position and stay out of the enemy’s sights.
The hero’s pulse rifle is a reliable and powerful weapon. During the sprint, his speed reaches 8.33 m/s, which makes Soldier-76 mobile and unpredictable.
The device, referred to as the “Field Emitter” in Overwatch 2, creates a Biotic Field that restores the health of allies within a radius of 5 meters. The effect lasts for 5 seconds, replenishing 40.8 health points per second. Within 15 seconds after use, the device is ready for reactivation.
Opponents are unable to break the Biotic Field: if the hero sees the installation, it continues to operate and keep the fighters alive nearby.

Soldier’s Tactical Visor-76
When Soldier-76 activates the tactical visor, his sight is aimed at the top of the sniper’s head for accuracy. This module is aimed at the target itself, significantly increasing the firing efficiency. The ability lasts for 6 seconds, accelerates reloading and instantly replenishes ammunition.
In Overwatch 2, his pulse rifle does between 6 and 19 damage, firing 8.77 rounds per second. There are 30 rounds in the clip, and it takes only 1.5 seconds to reload.
However, continuous shooting causes recoil — accuracy decreases, so experienced players alternate series of shots, keeping the sight stable.
In addition, the hero is able to launch a missile strike that hits targets within a 2-meter radius. A direct hit does 120 damage, and a close hit does up to 80. The missiles move at a speed of 40 m/s without expending ammunition.
How to play as Soldier 76 in Overwatch
A 76 Soldier is often chosen in competitions when stable fire support and reliable damage are needed. This hero is versatile: he helps his allies and is able to turn the tide of battle single-handedly.

Tactics and tips
For complete success, it is worth keeping an average distance and aiming fire. Don’t stand still — maneuver, look for higher ground where you can safely activate the ultimate ability.
How to Defeat Soldier 76
Winning a duel depends on your reaction speed and accuracy. There are several characters who can neutralize his abilities.:
Enemy Elimination Guide — 2025
Genji is a nimble ninja who easily dodges pulse rifle shots and deflects bullets. He is able to suddenly attack from the back, accurately throwing shuriken.
-
Reinhardt — puts up an energy barrier that blocks most of the hits. A quick dash allows him to deal significant damage to Soldier 76.
-
Turboswine — withstands a barrage of fire due to its ability to quickly restore health, and its hook can pull an opponent out of a Biotic field and finish him off at close range.

The main drawback of the hero is his large size. Soldier-76 is easy to hit, especially if the enemy attacks with a series of powerful shots.
Conclusion
Soldier-76 is a character in Overwatch 2. He is effective both offensively and in support. His Biotic field saves the lives of his allies, and his ability to heal himself makes him resilient in battle.
However, high visibility and large size remain a vulnerability. Experienced players take this factor into account, building competent tactics and using mobility to dominate the battlefield.
