NetherRealm Studios is back to its favorite business — creating spectacular and memorable fighting games. Injustice: Gods Among Us left a good impression, although it did not live up to the title of perfect. After its release, fans waited with bated breath for the sequel, hoping that the next part would be stronger, deeper and more elaborate. Four years passed before expectations became reality. But was the sequel able to live up to expectations? It’s time to find out.

From the very first frames of the trailer, it becomes clear that a new, powerful storm of conflict awaits us. A threat in the form of Brainiac is already looming on the horizon, Supergirl appears – the cousin of Superman himself, and at the same time a rare chance for long-time rivals, Batman and the Man of Steel, to temporarily unite. But will this fragile alliance hold out in the face of the impending catastrophe?
The story once again takes a course towards a large-scale confrontation between good and evil – but with one caveat: after the dramatic events of the first part, it is no longer so easy to understand who is on whose side. Everything is confused. Old allies turn into enemies, trust is destroyed, and ahead is a new threat from the depths of space, returning after five years.

It is important to understand: this story exists outside the official DC canon. We are dealing with an alternative universe, the very concept of “other worlds”, where familiar heroes act unexpectedly, and familiar roles are reversed. So if you played Injustice 2, forget the usual order. A completely different story begins here, with its own rules, plots, and destinies.

Injustice 2 Plot
If you decide to go through the story mode, then be prepared to spend about seven hours in the game – and that’s if you follow the story without distractions. About a third of this time will be taken up by bright and exciting cutscenes, which not only decorate the gameplay, but literally tell an entire film. You can collect them into a full-fledged film and arrange a marathon for yourself: first enjoy the story from Injustice: Gods Among Us, then immediately immerse yourself in the events of Injustice 2. And if you want to understand the world and characters even more deeply, be sure to look at the original comics. Well, and do not forget to read our article on the chronicles of the superhero war – it clarifies a lot.
Some characters in the sequel have noticeably changed – take the Joker, for example. Now he is somewhat reminiscent of the Jared Leto version and, admittedly, it works. His ending in arcade mode is especially good – be sure to watch it! Fans of fighting game plots will definitely not be disappointed: the campaign has twelve chapters where you try on the role of all the key characters, including fresh faces. An interesting touch – in some chapters you are given a choice between two characters, and this affects the course of events. Lost a fight? No problem – try changing your style and get to know another hero. This approach makes the passage much more lively and multifaceted.

Naturally, the further you go, the more serious the challenges become. The game does not let you relax for a minute. The story itself, with all its scope and drama, is a little limping in places – there are enough logical gaps. But all this is forgivable: after all, we are in the Elseworlds universe, where any assumptions are possible. Moreover, the visual part pleases the eye – the characters are animated with love, the fights look juicy, and the voice acting is beyond praise. The final scene is simply a standing ovation.
And our heroines are real stars: they fight spectacularly and joke in the best traditions of the genre.
And for those who want real challenges, the developers from NetherRealm Studios have prepared the “Multiverse” – a special mode for hardcore players. Are you ready to test yourself?
How to Master the Multiverse Mode in Injustice 2
One universe wasn’t enough — real superheroes can’t sit still when somewhere in a parallel reality everything is going downhill again. This is how the “Multiverse” mode appears in Injustice 2: the heroes go to other worlds to restore order there. Sounds like a reason for a big adventure, doesn’t it?
Each such dimension is a randomly generated world with a unique number like “Earth-21525”. Before the start, you will get a brief description of the situation, learn the difficulty level and the number of stages. Everything is extremely clear. And you can immediately see what you have to fight for: rewards include in-game currency, special boxes with items and powerful epic equipment. However, you will have to sweat for the most valuable thing — fights with bosses controlled by AI do not forgive mistakes.

For those who went through the hell of Mortal Kombat X, the modifiers here will seem familiar. They are specially added to turn each battle into a real challenge. Don’t be surprised if the enemies literally crush you with numbers and strength, especially if you’ve selected a high difficulty level and your character hasn’t been leveled up yet. The bosses themselves are a separate conversation. These titans of the universe will easily take up more than one hour of your time before they fall. But it’s these fights that make victory truly sweet.
Leveling up heroes here isn’t just a checkmark on a checklist — it’s a whole layer of gameplay. You can assemble different sets, experiment with equipment, combine parts — all for the sake of the perfect look. But there’s a nuance: there aren’t that many really cool sets, and you’ll have to pay in-game currency to access visual improvements, like color shaders. Therefore, for a long time, all the heroes will look roughly the same. Fortunately, there is a function for transforming equipment — for a certain price, you can change the appearance of one thing to the appearance of another without losing its characteristics. A trifle, but nice.
How In-Game Currency and Chests Work in Injustice 2
Four types of currency were brought into the game at once, and each is responsible for its own purpose: some are used to buy containers with loot, some are used to upgrade equipment. Want a “box of happiness” with especially valuable items? Get ready to either participate in special events or pay with crystals – they are equivalent to real money here. For these same crystals, you can disguise one thing as another or immediately pump up a hero to level 20. It is from this threshold that access to wearing epic armor opens, so the acceleration is quite justified.
The more universes you go through, the more rewards you will collect – the logic is simple. Just do not expect that luck will play on your side and throw the right gear for your main. Randomness here, as in life, loves to joke. Chests in the game are a separate story. They contain a lot of small stuff, and often – frankly – garbage. But at least some of it can be sold right away, without leaving the inventory, albeit at a price that even a tramp would not be happy with. The rest is loot for those who are ready to spend dozens of hours knocking out the coveted parts in battle.

If you decide to take equipment seriously, it is worth considering:
-
Regular chests can be purchased for in-game currency.
-
Premium containers are awarded for participating in events or purchased for crystals.
-
Junk can be sold directly from the inventory.
-
Crystals allow you to level up your character, change the appearance of things and instantly get to level 20.
-
Epic equipment becomes available only after level 20.
Well, if you have no patience, you can always just throw in a few crystals and immediately dress your fighter in a premium set. Fortunately, the developers assured that there will be room online for those who play honestly, according to skill, and not at the expense of leveling up. A nice bonus is the ability to link the console and mobile versions of the game. For this, you can get a bronze chest every day. A small thing, but nice.
And now – about the main attraction. Darkseid. One of the most charismatic and powerful characters in the universe. For now, it’s only available to those who pre-ordered the game, but you can try it out in the multiverses. The hint is obvious – some kind of “extended edition” is just around the corner, so that others can also try on the image of a galactic villain. In general, NetherRealm is in its repertoire – a little greedy, but predictable in its own way. It’s a pity. Because Darkseid is really cool and I would like to see him available to everyone, and not just to those who pre-ordered in advance.
And finally – the highlight of this whole extravaganza is the localization. There is plenty to laugh about here. For example, you can expect “Firestorm” (yes, that’s right), “Captain Cold”, a loud “WINS” after each fight (the word “victory” has apparently gone on vacation) and delightfully strange names of equipment that you should see with your own eyes. And the “Brother’s Eye system” is a masterpiece. One gets the feeling that this whole thing was translated with the help of Darkseid.
Injustice 2 Combat System
The fights themselves have essentially remained the same since MKX and the first part of Injustice. Still intuitive controls, familiar combinations of blows, the ability to spend accumulated charges to enhance moves or interrupt an opponent’s combo. But the statistics of the characters are a real puzzle for beginners. If you want to win online, you will have to understand the intricacies of fighting mathematics. Just pressing buttons will not work anymore.
The most noticeable innovation that is really felt in battle is the increased dynamics. Fights have become noticeably more lively, more aggressive, faster. Some heroes from the first part with the same arsenal of moves now feel completely different – as if they have changed their style. It seems that the arenas themselves have become more compact: distances are reduced faster, players more often go into a clinch. Almost every fighter has the opportunity to suddenly get closer to the enemy, which makes the fights even more intense and intense.

An interesting touch is the reworked “clash” system. When two characters come together in close combat, the interface changes, and an impromptu “duel within a duel” begins. Players bet scale charges (from one to four), and the result depends on who risked more. The winner receives either healing or deals increased damage. All this only works if you have less than half of your health left and instead of defending, you pressed “forward + use charge”. Adds excitement – especially at the end of the fight.
The balance between the fighters is also felt in its own way: heavyweights still hit slowly, but powerfully and with control, and light characters rely on speed, mobility and long combo series. The tactical choice is yours: close combat, long-range attacks, an emphasis on damage, control or a universal style – everyone will find a hero for themselves. True, beginners in this variety may feel a little uncomfortable. But don’t worry – you don’t have to dive deep into the mechanics to have fun. Just play, experiment, fight with friends and enjoy the process. And there’s always time to figure out the intricacies.
What Makes Injustice 2 Worth Playing in 2025
Injustice 2 is not just another fighting game, but a bright, rich project in which you dive headlong into a dark superhero universe. It has everything you need for an exciting evening: well-developed graphics, a strong plot with an emotional presentation and a wide selection of characters, among which you will definitely find your favorite. And the multiverse and online scene open up opportunities for repeated playthroughs and participation in tournaments.

Particularly pleasing:
-
The animation of the characters’ faces is lively, with emotions. You really feel pain, fear or rage when you look at the screen.
-
The sound and voice acting are perfectly matched: each character sounds in their own style, be it Batman or Harley Quinn.
-
The fights are dynamic and do not overwhelm beginners. Even if you are sitting at the gamepad for the first time, it will not be difficult to get used to it.
-
A number of familiar faces from the DC universe are perfectly complemented by new fighters – the variety is pleasing.
-
Everyone can find their own style: some skillfully combine blows, others rely on special moves.
-
The project has everything to take off in eSports – spectacle, depth and balance.
But not without a fly in the ointment:
-
Microtransactions with boxes spoil the impression a little – at times it seems that you are not looking at a AAA project, but a free-to-play one.
-
Some cool fighters turned out to be for an additional fee, and this feels like an artificial limitation.
-
The localization could be better – some moments sound dry or out of place.
-
And, of course, not everything is smooth in the plot: at times there are gaps that leave questions.
Injustice 2 is a game that can captivate both a single player and fans who want to compete with each other. Especially if you are interested in who would win in a fight: Flash or Superman.
