Recently, Steam hosted the Games to Be festival, where developers shared demos of their projects. Among dozens of new releases, it was easy to miss a small but interesting demo called Dome Keeper. Swedish publishers Raw Fury, the same ones who gave us Kingdom and Bad North, are behind its release. Despite its modesty, the game definitely deserves attention.

Sometimes, a game only needs one successful update to regain its former popularity — this is what happened with Dome Keeper, an atmospheric sci-fi project from the Bippinbits studio. This game, released in 2022, combines several genres at once: there are elements of tower defense, roguelike, survival, and even underground exploration. The player will have to defend the dome from endless waves of monsters, while digging into the bowels of the planet in search of resources and upgrades.
On October 5, update 3.0, called Double Dome, was released, and it literally breathed new life into the project. In a matter of days after the release of the patch, thousands of new and returning players rushed into Dome Keeper: after three days, the online on Steam reached 5,285 people at the same time. For comparison, before the update, the online was 25 times less. An increase of more than 2500% is an impressive result even by the standards of large titles.
What new things did the update bring? First of all, there are two unique domes that have become real gameplay finds. Tesla Dome offers players the ability to deliver chain electric discharges to enemies, while Artillery Dome turns base defense into a miniature artillery operation with powerful shelling. These domes change the usual approaches to battles, forcing you to reconsider tactics and adapt to new conditions.

In addition to the new bases, the developers have added a lot of small but pleasant changes: improved balance, fixed bugs, updated the interface and optimized performance. The update was not just extensive, but high-quality – and this was immediately reflected in the perception of the game in the community. To date, Dome Keeper has already collected more than 8,000 reviews on Steam, and 90% of them are positive, which speaks for itself.
Despite the fact that the main campaign of Dome Keeper takes an average of 5.5 hours to complete, this does not mean that the game is short or quickly becomes boring. On the contrary, thanks to the high level of replayability and many different modes, mechanics and strategies, many users spend dozens of hours in the game. Reviews often mention 20, 40 and even 80 hours of gameplay – and this is far from the limit, especially for fans of the genre.
The Double Dome update was not just a technical update, but a real event in the life of the game. It reminded the community that Dome Keeper is not just a successful indie game, but a project with potential that continues to develop and delight its fans. If you haven’t visited for a while, now is the perfect time to return.

Dome Keeper Resources and Leveling Guide
Dome Keeper is not just a pixel game about dome defense. It is a hardcore, intense roguelike with survival elements, in which you need to not only fight off waves of enemies, but also manage your time wisely, digging mines, extracting resources and developing defenses. The game seems to ask: “Do everything – otherwise you will not survive.”
You find yourself in the center of events – literally under the dome, which you need to protect from the advancing monsters. While one part of your brain is busy digging underground, the second is tracking the timer in order to have time to return and turn on the defensive weapon. Everything is on your shoulders.
Each descent into the mine is a race against time. You need to extract resources to increase your chances of survival:
-
Gold is the basis of everything. Without it, you will not upgrade either the hero, or the weapon, or the dome itself. It is used for the most important upgrades.
-
Water is a more specific resource. With its help, the “upgrade tree” is improved and the effects of special relics are activated.
-
Cobalt is a life-saving material. It allows you to repair a damaged dome or increase its resistance to attacks.
While digging, you can find relics – massive finds that take up 4 inventory slots at once. Bring one to the base, and you will have a choice: install a useful gadget (for example, auto-healing, telekinesis or drilling accelerator) or dismantle the relic for 2 cobalt. Sometimes it is an agonizing choice: effort here, or survival later? But the main test is the final relic, a huge structure with 12 cells. Dragging it to the dome is not an easy task. But the reward is worth it: when installed, it triggers the final battle, followed by a spectacular culmination – a giant explosion that destroys all enemies on the screen and finishes the run.

Every aspect of your existence in Dome Keeper can be improved. The hero can upgrade:
-
Drill Power — dig faster.
-
Flight Speed — move towards the target more efficiently.
-
Carrying Capacity — carry more resources at a time.
The dome can also be modified. The main weapon is a laser gun (currently the only option), which can be improved: increasing damage, turning speed and range. There is also a tree growing inside the dome: by pouring a drop of water on it, you will receive a fruit that temporarily speeds up resource extraction and movement.
Enemies do not sleep. They can be roughly divided into flying and ground. Some rush at the dome from above, others approach it from the ground, trying to destroy it as quickly as possible. All of them are perfectly animated and have their own sound design – even though the graphics are pixelated, they make a serious impression. Each enemy appearance is stressful, and their diversity and behavior force you to adapt on the fly.
As befits a true roguelike, each new run will be different from the previous one: resource generation, location of relics, difficulty of waves. After your first victory, a new element is unlocked – a steam device that can be put in place of a tree. Its task is to delay the approach of the next wave. But here, too, a dilemma arises: if you want more time, you sacrifice buffs from fruits. If you want power-ups, be ready to fight more often.
