Garten of Banban 2 picks you up where the first game left off: at the foot of a collapsed elevator. It all happened because Jumbo Josh, a huge green mascot character, suddenly found himself inside the cabin. His weight was critical, the structure gave way, and everything fell down. Now Josh lies among twisted metal – crushed, as if he had become a victim of his own weight and someone else’s short-sightedness.
This creepy, almost cinematic introduction evokes a strong sense of déjà vu – too similar to the moment from Poppy Playtime, when Huggy Wuggy disappears into the mine after falling. It feels like the creators are not just borrowing ideas, but turning them into a new twist on the story – with different characters, but the same oppressive feeling that something is deeply wrong in this children’s world.
And you, the player, are again not an observer, but a participant. You can’t just walk past here – the elevator has already left, the way back is cut off, and all that remains is to go further into the depths of this alarmingly empty kindergarten.

From the very first minutes, Garten of Banban 2 offers the player something more than just a continuation of the first part. You find yourself in a strange, vast space, as if outside of reality. The main character is nameless, without a story, only you and this place. In front of you are three mysterious zones. Each of them is like a separate small world, hidden behind gloomy architecture and ominous silence. And although all this resembles the familiar formula from Poppy’s Playtime: Chapter 2, where the player explores several isolated areas, here everything feels different – more sterile, disturbing … and more personal.
This space is truly unsettling. It seems not to belong to the real world: you are surrounded by office buildings, gray, uniform, with dim lighting. You do not see the sky or the ground – as if you are hanging between two planes, where everything is created only to confuse. This feeling of liminality – as if you were in an empty corridor that should not exist – permeates the game from the very beginning. And later, when you return to this central area, the atmosphere becomes even more oppressive. As if the space itself is watching you.

Despite the borrowed ideas, Garten of Banban 2 is not afraid to go its own way. The authors opt for surrealism and disturbing absurdity, instead of the usual screamershow. And even if it is not always comfortable, it is memorable.
In the first of the three zones, you will find a simple task at first glance: get a key card from the storage. However, everything changes the moment you go back. That’s when a new antagonist appears – Nabnab. This creature is described as a spider, but instead of eight legs, it has only four. It does not crawl – it stalks, it hunts. And it does it silently, without warning, falling on you from above at the most unexpected moment. No cutscenes, no preparation – just a sharp transition from silence to panic.

The puzzle itself in this section seems simple. You just need to find the exit. But the game does everything to turn even this simple task into an endurance test. The chase is brutal, and the room for maneuver is limited. The slightest mistake – and everything starts over. The controls are especially unpleasant: to survive, you need to not just run, but hold the stick in one direction. Pressing the button, like in most games, does not work here. And if your finger slips – even for a split second – Nabnab will catch up with you. And you will have to start the whole section from the beginning, knowing that any miss will again nullify everything you have achieved.
Garten of Banban 2 is not a game about puzzles and not even about horror. This is a game about constant tension. About how easy it is to get lost in sterile walls and how fragile the border between calm and panic is. Here you never feel safe. Even when you know what to do.

Gameplay Garten of Banban 2
One of the episodes of Garten of Banban 2 turns into a real psychological test of endurance. You find yourself in a strange, at first glance, harmless class, where instead of students there are inanimate objects symbolizing school cliques: basketballs in sunglasses play the role of “popular”, bowling pins – “evil”, and watering cans depict “losers”. The player’s task is to join each “table” in turn and answer questions using tape recorders placed in front of you. The problem is that most of the correct answers are unknown in advance. The game literally forces you to go through everything by trial and error. Sometimes you can see hints on the tapes, but they are too rare to make the process easier. For the slightest mistake, teacher Banbalina interrupts the entire lesson, turns to face you and arranges a full-fledged screamer. And not just a light “boo!” – but a full-fledged audiovisual attack on your nerves. Then everything starts over again. Listening to tapes again, searching for the right answer again. This cycle of fear and repetition awakens an unpleasant feeling of helplessness. It’s catchy the first time, but after a couple of tries it starts to tire – and this, paradoxically, is the power of these scenes.

But Banban 2 is not limited to this class. The variety of game situations is pleasantly surprising:
-
battles with aggressive birds, which require quick reactions and accuracy;
-
gun control and territory protection;
-
collecting biomaterial from strange dead creatures is a mechanic that causes real discomfort;
-
tense scenes of escaping from enemies, each of which is implemented uniquely.
Unlike the first part, where the frightening element was almost the only one for the entire game, here you will find a series of creepy, atmospheric scenes. They seem to be unrelated to each other, and it seems that the game is not a story, but a series of sadistic mini-performances staged for the amusement of strange talismans.
By the end, you reach another cliffhanger. This will not be a surprise – the authors clearly planned the series in advance. There are already parts available only on Xbox, there are those that were released on Steam, and the next one is already on the way. But what is really confusing is the absence of Garten of Banban 5. Seriously, where did it go? Why do we jump straight to the sixth game after the fourth? It’s intriguing and annoying at the same time – but in a good way. Personally, I’m already drawn into this crazy horror universe and want to know everything: where the story is leading, what the talismans hide and who is really behind this place.
In terms of progress, the second part makes a noticeable step forward compared to the first. There are more characters, more interaction with the environment and, albeit slightly, there is plot development. Of course, the story is still presented in fits and starts, a lot is left behind the scenes, and the emphasis is still on trying to scare the player. However, the structure has become more coherent, and the atmosphere is darker and denser. There are scenes that really make you tense, but also those that feel like cliches from the past. Nevertheless, the game maintains a balance between absurdity and horror, and this is its signature style. Everything points to the series gradually finding itself. And if the third part maintains this dynamic and adds a little more depth, Garten of Banban may well grow from a simple meme horror into something much more serious and memorable.
