Team17 and Expression Games have released the launch trailer for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam—and it’s more than just a pretty video set to “Ride of the Valkyries” by FAME’S Studio Orchestra. The game will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 13th, though it was originally expected on June 18th. The delay is due to polishing after the open beta, which was attended by 352,000 players; the developers were collecting feedback on technical issues and performance, and it appears the polishing was significant. Incidentally, the beta was held back in late May, and now we’re seeing the final result.

The formula itself remains the same: large-scale 50v50 multiplayer, tactical team play, role-playing, and no casual elements. But the setting has changed dramatically—instead of European trenches, there are dense jungles, rice fields, and Vietnamese villages. The launch features six maps, each of which, according to the developers, is designed with real-world topography in mind. As for new features, there are plenty: helicopters (only for the Americans), tunnel networks (only for the NVA), and patrol boats for both sides. Plus, improved mobility: you can now swim, climb, and pull wounded comrades out of harm’s way. A decent set of features to excite fans of the original.

A total of 17 roles are announced in the game (according to Steam, although some sources list 19—apparently due to regional differences). These include command, infantry, reconnaissance, armored units, mortar crews, and, of course, helicopter pilots. Helicopters are a special case: they add tactical depth, allowing for the rapid deployment of squads or the organization of ambushes from the air. But it won’t be boring without them either – six modes, including “Offensive” and “Warfare,” plus four alternative gameplay options. Tellingly, the developers haven’t messed around with Early Access – the game is launching straight away as version 1.0.

Now, for those ready to drop their cash. Pre-orders are now open on all target platforms – Steam, Epic Games Store, PS Store, and Xbox Store. The Standard Edition will cost $39.99, while the Deluxe Edition will cost $59.99. Pre-orders include a bonus American patrol boat crew uniform, while the Deluxe Edition includes a whole set of additional skins (called Field Supplies). Incidentally, physical editions, according to the official press release, will be available on August 4th – although some stores list the same date as the digital version, August 13th. There’s still some confusion, but we’re keeping our finger on the pulse.

And finally, for PC players: the system requirements are already known. You’ll need Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB of RAM, and a graphics card comparable to Nvidia RTX 2060. Overall, it’s not the most forgiving setup, but the game isn’t exactly an indie gem. So, if you’re yearning for hardcore tactical shooters and ready to swap European battlefields for the Vietnamese jungle, August 13th is your day. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer and decide which side you’ll side with—and don’t forget to pre-order if you want the bonus uniform.
