The Guardian is the first suit you’ll unlock in Chapter 3, Season 7’s Battle Pass. Its main feature isn’t the armor or customization slots, but the tiny pilot inside. You can place one of 20 Sprites in the cockpit, and essentially play as them. There are 117 Sprites in the game. The remaining 97 are not allowed in the cockpit. And this, you’ll agree, is pretty disappointing news for collectors. We’ll break down which Sprites you can take with you, where to find them, and, most importantly, which ones you can’t. And yes, there will be bugs too.Briefly: only one of the 20 base Sprites can be the Guardian’s pilot. It’s enough to extract it in a match—level 5 isn’t required. Collaboration Sprites and any rarity variants (gold, pearl, or holographic) are not suitable. If the pilot hasn’t unlocked, you likely extracted the Sprite before June 25th, 9:00 PM Moscow time, when the quests weren’t working yet. The solution is to extract it again.

What’s next? A full breakdown follows.

What is a Guardian and why do we need these pilots?

A Guardian is a mech. Big, heavy, with tons of customization slots: you can change the helmet, body, arms, and colors. But the most interesting part is the Sprite inside, which sits in the cockpit and, apparently, controls this whole thing.

Fortnite Guardian Sprite

Why is this necessary? Firstly, it’s simply cool. It looks unique and stands out from other skins. Secondly, it’s a progression—the more Sprites you extract, the more options you have for the cockpit. And thirdly, it’s a status symbol. Some Sprites, like the Burnt Peanut, have a 1.5% chance of dropping from Sprite Chests. If you got it, you’re either lucky or you spent a ton of time on it.

By the way, collecting all the Sprites for the achievement is pointless—mastering all 117 doesn’t give anything unique, and the final reward (the Sprite Party emote) unlocks after 70. But pilots are a different story. Everyone matters.

How to unlock a Guardian pilot: step-by-step instructions

The mechanics are simple, but there are some nuances. The main rule: you don’t need to level up a Sprite to level 5. Simply extract it.

Here’s how it works, step by step:

  1. Find a suitable Sprite on the map (list below).
  2. Bring it to the extractor—it’s the white beacon marked on the map.
  3. Activate the extractor and survive the countdown.
  4. After successful extraction, the base version of the Sprite will automatically appear in your collection and become available as a Guardian pilot.

Important: Only the base version works. If you extract, say, a Zero Point Gem, you’ll unlock the regular Zero Point, not the precious version. It won’t appear in your collection or be added to your reward decoration.

Where to find an extractor and how it works

An extractor is a large platform with a container where you place a Sprite. There are usually several on the map, marked with white icons. Approach it, activate it, and the countdown begins. During this time, you’re vulnerable, so it’s best to clear the area beforehand or do it with a team.

Smart Tip: Don’t want to risk it on a shared platform? Buy a portable extractor for 2,000 Sprite Dust at the terminal near the extraction zone. It allows you to extract a Sprite in 5 seconds from anywhere on the map. One is sold per day, reset at 4:00 PM Moscow time. Tip: save it for rare Sprites, not water or ground Sprites.

Is mastery level 5 required?

No. For those who missed it: it’s not. Mastery level 5 unlocks other perks (like displaying in the Sprite Mastery Pod), but for a pilot, extracting is enough.

How to check if a pilot is unlocked

Open the Guardian in your locker and go to the Sprite style option. If the pilot appears in the list, everything is fine. If not, either you extracted the Sprite before activating the quest, or you don’t have the base version.

Complete list of all 20 Sprite pilots and where to find them

The table is everything. Here are 20 Sprites that are guaranteed to become pilots:

Sprite Pilot Where to find on the map
Peely Sprite Near Banana Grove and fruit stands
Cuddle Sprite Inside buildings at Festive Park
Fishstick Sprite Along the coast and docks of Dock Town
Beef Boss Sprite Near Durr Burger diner
Tomatohead Sprite Around Pizza Parlor and abandoned warehouses
Meowscles Sprite In the gym and on the Yacht
Slurp Sprite Near tanks and the rebuilt Nectar Factory
Guff Sprite In forest areas on the north side of the map
Skye Sprite On mountain peaks and near tourist tents
Midas Sprite Inside the gold vault on the central island
Mancake Sprite In the desert biome near Butter Pancake
Klombo Sprite On open plains near underground burrows
Llama Sprite Appears randomly instead of regular chests
Cuddle Team Sprite On the pink roof of the main base in the center
Brite Sprite Near bright graffiti and skate parks
Raven Sprite At the cemetery and in gothic ruins
Drift Sprite On the racetrack and in garages
Doggo Sprite In the residential area of Restless Fields
Bushranger Sprite In thick bushes and forest outposts
Agent Peely Sprite In secret spy bunkers underground

Important: Most Sprites drop from Sprite Chests—black chests with a pink diamond. Exceptions include Water, Fire, Ground (by location), Ghost (at night), Boss (post-boss), Striker (goals), Fish (fishing), and Dream (warehouses).

Which Sprites CANNOT be used as a pilot

Fortnite Guardian Pilot Sprites

97 Sprites are out of the game. And here are two strict rules:

  • Rule one – collaborations. No Batman, John Wick, Vinnie Jr., Pollo, or Ironmouse. They’re not allowed for legal reasons, not gameplay reasons. Ironmouse, by the way, is temporarily disabled at the time of writing due to bugs—but even if they fix it, she won’t be a pilot.
  • Rule two – rarity variants. Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holographic, Cubic, Crack, and Gem—all are unusable. Only the base version. That’s the only aspect that works here.

Why the Guardian pilot hasn’t unlocked and how to fix it

The most common complaint: You extracted a Sprite, but the pilot didn’t appear. Sound familiar?

Reason: A bug from Epic Games. The issue affected specific Sprites: Striker, Fishy, Aura, Boss, and Grim. The issue is that the Guardian assembly quests only became active on June 25, 2026, at 9:00 PM Moscow time. Anyone who extracted these Sprites before that date did not receive the pilot.

Solution: Re-extract the Sprite. The quests are active now, so it should work. If it doesn’t work, check to see if you extracted a non-basic version.

By the way, Epic is aware of the issue and is investigating it. But don’t expect a quick patch—it’s easier to do it yourself.

How to quickly collect all Guardian pilots: priorities and locations

Want all the pilots, but don’t want to spend forever? Here’s the plan:

The most difficult (do first):

  • Boss – after the boss. Bosses aren’t always on the map, and they need to be killed.
  • Striker – Score a goal on the soccer field. The field is located near the southwest corner of the map.
  • Ghost – wanders at night. Night cycles in Fortnite aren’t the most frequent, so seize the moment.
  • Dream – Storage cells in Battlewoods. This is a high-density area, so be careful.

The rest are farmable: 90% of the items on this list drop from Sprite Chests. Just run around the map, open chests, don’t die, and your collection will be full.

Bonus: Burnt Peanut – ultra-rare, 1.5% chance. If you find one, don’t risk it; use a portable extractor.

So what’s the bottom line? The Guardian isn’t just a skin. It’s an entire collection system. 20 pilots, 117 Sprites, tons of variants—and an ironclad rule: only the base. There are some bugs, but they can be fixed by extracting them again. Main advice: don’t waste time leveling up just for a pilot—extracting is enough. And a portable extractor is your insurance against rare specimens.

Now you know everything. Go collect. Good luck on the island.
