Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Is Also Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 — Announced Just Weeks Before Launch - Image 1

Platform announcements like this usually land months before release, not two and a half weeks out. Yet that’s exactly what Cold Iron Studios just did: in a new Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 trailer, the studio quietly added Nintendo Switch 2 to the platform lineup at the very last minute.

The game launches on August 25, 2026 on Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S — that part of the plan has been known for a while. The Switch 2 version, though, is the surprise: it’s coming later, sometime this fall, as a separate release after the main launch.

What the New Trailer Actually Shows

Beyond the platform reveal, the trailer leans heavily into co-op gameplay. Developers showed four-player squad combat against xenomorphs — the series’ signature hook since the original Fireteam Elite. Players will team up with friends to fight off new threats from the Alien universe, including what looks like an expanded enemy roster.

Why This Matters for Players

Adding a platform this close to launch is unusual — and good news for Nintendo owners. Co-op third-person shooters are still fairly rare on Switch 2, and the console fits that “couch squad” vibe well, though in this case it’ll almost certainly be online co-op rather than local play.

A few things worth keeping in mind:

  • The PC and console release date is locked in — August 25, 2026, with no signs of delay.
  • The Switch 2 version arrives later, with no exact date yet — only a fall 2026 window.
  • Switch 2’s hardware differs from PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so some graphical or frame-rate trade-offs wouldn’t be surprising — though nothing’s been confirmed officially.
  • Cross-play and cross-progression between platforms haven’t been addressed by the developers yet.

If you’ve already got the game pre-ordered on PS5 or PC, nothing changes — the release stays on track. Switch 2 owners, though, should keep an eye on the studio’s announcements closer to fall, since the exact date and technical details for that version will likely be revealed separately, once the dust from the main launch settles.
