Extraction shooter Mistfall Hunter reached 1 million players within a week of its July 30th release. The developers are offering bonuses until August 12th and have published a roadmap featuring a solo mode, three season phases, and a teaser for Season 2. The game is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox.
Mistfall Hunter Attracts a Million Players in a Week and Receives a Roadmap
Just imagine: the dark fantasy Extraction, which launched on July 30th, has already surpassed one million active users. Yes, Mistfall Hunter from Bellring Games and Skystone Games has had a strong start, and to celebrate, the developers haven’t just congratulated players—they’ve rolled out a whole holiday pack, unveiled a detailed update plan, and even hinted at a second season. Gifts can be claimed until August 12th, and the first phase of new features launches today, August 6th.
The game is available on three platforms—PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S—plus cloud gaming. Essentially a blend of Souls-like mechanics with raiding and PvP combat, it immediately attracted the attention of genre fans. However, not everything is rosy: on Steam, the game is labeled “mixed” with a rating of around 58% (over 3,650 reviews). Players complain about the lack of a solo mode at launch, optimization issues, and microtransactions. It seems the studio has heard the criticism—the upcoming patches are addressing these pain points.
As for gifts, anyone who logs in before August 12th will receive a pack in their in-game inbox containing the “Spell” pose, 5 Lunar Nectar, and a Professional and Advanced Battle Bag. Incidentally, there’s a 10% discount on Steam until that date, so newcomers might want to take a closer look. But bonuses are only a small part of the experience; The roadmap promises regular events and seasonal quests, so content will be added regularly.
The most exciting development is the single-player mode for the Brandrgard map. It will appear midway through the first season, presumably in September, on two difficulty levels: Normal and Cataclysm. The mode will first be launched in a test mode to gauge audience reaction and performance. However, the developers are forthright: adding two new difficulties will split the matchmaking queue and could seriously impact class balance. Tellingly, this is the very feature players have been asking for the loudest, and now the studio is taking risks to meet expectations.
The first season is divided into three phases. The first one launches today: a new endgame level in Einherjar mode, Mistlord Trials, the Soul Harvest event with the Soulgnawer boss, and a seasonal rewards store. In September, Phase 2 will unlock all seasonal missions, add a solo mode for Brandgard, and the Underlord Speed Challenge. Phase 3 will introduce the Golden Woodling monster, which can disguise itself as a treasure chest, and the random event “Ancestral Tree.” The developers are already teasing Season 2, promising Blackarrow throwing spears, a new theme, and a reworked progression system, but haven’t announced any exact dates yet.

The statistics are also impressive: the peak online on Steam reached approximately 44,000 concurrent players—only slightly behind Escape from Tarkov’s record. However, technical issues are still present: the studio is investigating complaints of lag and freezes, and today’s update should improve stability and increase the drop rate of the “Dried Flower Knot” item. It’s been a strong start, but whether the game can stay afloat depends on how quickly the developers address technical issues and deliver on all their promises.
So, what’s the bottom line? Mistfall Hunter is a project with enormous potential, but it’s still a bit rough around the edges. If you’re not afraid of a few rough edges, now’s a great time to grab some gifts and try out the new content. But if you prefer the ultimate solo experience, wait for the September patches. Either way, the game clearly shows no signs of slowing down.
