Capcom reported record sales of Resident Evil Requiem – 8.06 million copies in four months. The company confirmed that the release of the new game boosted sales of older games in the series. The same strategy awaits Resident Evil Veronica, scheduled for release in 2027.

What if a single release can bring an entire catalog out of obscurity, including games that are almost ten years old? Capcom seems to have found the answer. Judging by the latest financial report, that’s exactly what happened with Resident Evil Requiem. The game, released on February 27, sold 8.06 million copies – although by mid-March, the figure was more modest (around 6 million), but the aggressive discounts Capcom launched in April spurred sales. And that’s hardly the main news. A far more important effect is that older installments in the series have become bestsellers.

Resident Evil is no longer just a series, but an entire ecosystem. Capcom has built a mechanism whereby a new game triggers purchases of the entire catalog. And the numbers are the clearest confirmation of this. In the last quarter, five games in the franchise sold over a million copies each. Among them are Resident Evil 2 Remake, now officially the best-selling game in the series’ history (19.75 million), Resident Evil 3 Remake (14.52 million), Resident Evil 4 Remake (16.04 million), as well as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village. Even Resident Evil 5, which held the top spot for nearly 15 years, has now given way to the second remake—a symbolic change of pace.

How Requiem Revived Old Games and Made Them Sell Again?

These aren’t just words. Capcom’s financial report clearly states: quarterly revenue grew by 54.7% (to ¥70.41 billion), operating profit by 66.9% (to ¥41.05 billion). In just three months, the company sold 23.81 million games. Requiem was the key driver. Moreover, the company itself admitted that the release of the new game attracted many new players, and this is no coincidence.

There is one interesting detail. According to Capcom, approximately half of Requiem’s audience is 20-year-olds. The series, which debuted almost thirty years ago, now attracts a generation that didn’t even experience the original Resident Evil 4. This is the result of a targeted strategy: Capcom made the game modern, dynamic, and accessible, and discounts on older games completed the job.

Why Capcom is banking on Veronica, and why it makes sense?

The announcement of Resident Evil Veronica at the Summer Game Fest on June 6, 2026, created a stir. The game didn’t even show a second of gameplay, but it has already amassed over 2 million wishlist additions on Steam. By comparison, it took Requiem almost twice as long to reach the same figure. And this is despite the fact that Veronica is a remake of a 2000 game, not a standalone release.

Resident Evil Veronica announcement

Why is Capcom so confident of its success? Because the strategy is proven. A new game generates interest, discounts on older titles attract newcomers, and those newcomers, in turn, become fertile ground for future releases. It’s a domino effect, and Capcom intends to reignite it. Resident Evil Veronica should be as much of a driver as Requiem, with one caveat: interest in it is already higher than its predecessor at the same stage.

Veronica Release Date: Platforms, Date, and What’s Known So Far

Resident Evil Veronica will be released in 2027. While there’s no exact month yet, the game’s page has already appeared in stores—Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store. The platforms are the standard ones: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. There are no exclusives—Capcom is apparently focusing on maximum reach. Development is being handled by the internal Division 1 division, and the game is powered by the RE Engine. If you don’t want to miss out on news about pre-orders and discounts, add the game to your wishlist now. It’s a good idea, given the level of excitement.

New Audience, Old Heroes: How Capcom Rejuvenated the Series

The 50% figure isn’t just a statistic. It’s a reason to reflect on how Capcom managed to renew not only its games but also its audience. During a meeting with investors, Capcom explained that the Resident Evil series is no longer perceived as “an old man’s game”—it has become appealing to younger audiences who missed out on the golden age of survival horror in the 1990s. This is despite the fact that Requiem isn’t a remake—it’s a new story that doesn’t require knowledge of the previous installments. This approach, according to Capcom, is what works best.

Comparing Requiem and Veronica—What We Already Know

To understand the scale of this phenomenon, it’s enough to compare the two releases. Here’s what the situation looks like for August 2026:

Parameter Resident Evil Requiem Resident Evil Veronica (forecast)
Release February 27, 2026 2027
Platforms PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2
Sales (~4 months) 8.06 million Expected at or above
Wishlist pre-release (Steam) ~4 months to 2M less than 2 months to 2M
Series status New standalone story Remake of cult Code: Veronica (2000)
Audience ~50% — age 20 Forecasted similar

And that’s not all. Requiem has already surpassed RE4 Remake in terms of initial sales, despite RE4 still being considered the gold standard for remakes. As for Veronica, at the time of its announcement, it already had a larger wishlist than Requiem at the same stage. This gives Capcom every reason for optimism.

What should the reader do now?

If you’re a fan of the series, don’t relax. Keep an eye on sales on Steam and consoles: discounts on older games will be repeated in the lead-up to Veronica’s release. If you’re new to the series, now is a great time to jump into the series through one of the older games at a reduced price. And if you’re just curious, add Veronica to your wishlist and stay tuned for more news. Capcom is clearly determined, and we’ll see this domino effect as early as 2027.
