Sixty auditions in a row — and not a single callback. That’s how actor Robert Bogue describes his attempt to return to the GTA franchise. In GTA V, he voiced Steven Haines, the corrupt FIB agent the protagonists clash with throughout the story. You’d think someone already familiar to the studio would have an edge over newcomers. It didn’t turn out that way.
Bogue said he auditioned for pretty much anything — lead roles, minor roles, size didn’t matter to him. He admits he’s frustrated with Rockstar, even though working on GTA V left him with nothing but good memories. And this isn’t a one-game relationship either — the actor previously voiced characters in a GTA IV expansion and in Red Dead Revolver, meaning he’d been part of the Rockstar family long before GTA V came along.
Why a Seasoned Actor Didn’t Land a Single Role
Rockstar never explained the rejection, and Bogue himself says he has no idea what went wrong. He compares the situation to falling in love with someone who then just walks away: things were good, then silence. Still, the actor holds no grudge against the studio and calls rejection an unavoidable part of the acting profession, adding that sometimes you just need one win.
The story is telling on two fronts. First, it’s a reminder that prior history with Rockstar guarantees nothing for a new project — the studio sorts through candidates without any sentimental discount for past work. Second, it’s an indirect hint at just how massive the GTA VI casting process really is — if one actor went through 60 auditions alone, imagine how many people tried out overall.
Rockstar hasn’t issued any official comment on the matter, and it’s unlikely to — the studio has never been in the habit of discussing casting details publicly.

GTA VI is slated for release in November 2026, currently only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no word yet on a PC version. Given how many actors went through the casting gauntlet, the eventual voice cast list is bound to spark plenty of discussion after launch — and there’s a good chance more stories like this one will surface.
