On July 30, 2026, GOG officially released the massive fan mod Fallout: New California—a full-fledged prequel to the iconic Fallout: New Vegas. The project is available absolutely free to all owners of Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition in the convenient GOG One-Click Mod format, completely eliminating the need for complex manual configuration. The release couldn’t have come at a better time: Bethesda recently confirmed that Fallout 5 is still in pre-production, so a full-fledged sequel to the franchise will be a long time coming.

Fallout New California Mod Features and Plot
Fallout: New California is not just another user-created plugin, but a massive modification the size of a full-fledged game. The player assumes the role of a resident of Vault 18, and the story takes place in California 20 years before the events of New Vegas. The developers have prepared a completely new map, eight unique companions, studio-produced dialogue, and original radio stations. The conflict over the region pitted factions from the Fallout universe against each other: the NCR, the Enclave, raiders, and super mutants. The project underwent a monstrous development journey—the first concepts appeared back in 2009 under the name Project Brazil, the first build was released in 2013, and the stable release on ModDB and Nexus Mods took place in 2018. Now, the project has received official recognition and playable status on the GOG store.
