Frogwares has released a 12-minute gameplay trailer for The Sinking City 2, titled “Meat for the Grindmaws.” It features a flooded Arkham, a vast fish market teeming with Lovecraftian creatures, and confirmation: the sequel is coming on August 18th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are now open, with the standard edition priced at $49.99.
The sequel surpasses the first game in its level of immersion and horror. While the original was a detective story with horror elements, the developers confidently shift the focus to survival. The developers carefully studied player feedback and reworked the mechanics to suit the new genre.

The Sinking City 1 vs. 2: What Changes in the Sequel’s Gameplay and Atmosphere?
The main difference is the genre shift. Frogwares has transformed The Sinking City 2 into a full-fledged survival horror experience. The player must constantly monitor resources, manage a limited inventory, and make tactical decisions in combat. The video shows that battles have become more dynamic, but the lack of ammo and dangerous monsters remain.
From detective to survival — a shift in genre focus
The first game emphasized investigation and building clues. The sequel is built around the struggle for survival: you search for resources, balance your inventory, decide what to take and what to leave behind. The atmosphere has become more intense — gloomy flooded locations, an unsettling soundtrack, and creepy monster designs all work together.
Inventory, resources, and combat — what’s more intense?
The developers have reworked the inventory management system. Now every decision matters: whether to carry an extra first aid kit or make room for ammo. The combat system has become more polished — more responsive and dynamic. But there are also more enemies, and they are smarter.
What did the new The Sinking City 2 gameplay trailer show?
The 12-minute video offers much more than just a selection of stills. Frogwares revealed a plot hook, a new location, and confirmed several important features that competitors hadn’t mentioned.
Plot Hook: Calvin Searches for Faye
The protagonist is Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer. After a dream ritual goes awry, his girlfriend, Faye, finds herself in a mysterious dream. Now, Calvin must navigate the flooded city of Arkham, a plague-ridden town inhabited by Slithers-like creatures that possess the dead and turn them into walking dolls.
Arkham Fish Market: A New Location
The trailer showcased a previously unseen location: Arkham Fish Market. Once a bustling shopping center teeming with life, it’s now home to monsters. You’ll have to explore it both on foot and by boat.
New Game+ at launch and HDR in the patch
Frogwares has confirmed that New Game+ will be available from launch. This mode allows you to carry over all your skill points, perks, and items to your next playthrough, unlocking special achievements and cosmetic rewards. HDR will be added later in a free post-release patch—most of the work on it has already been completed.
By the way, a free one-hour demo is already available on Steam—you can try the game right now. The release is August 18th.
