The strategy game will be released on September 17, 2026, on PC, with Commander Edition owners receiving early access starting September 14.

Deep Silver and KING Art Games have unveiled the third of four CGI cinematics dedicated to the game’s factions. This time, the focus is on the Necrons, immortal warriors who have lain in tombs for 60 million years, seeking to reclaim their lost domains. The trailer shows the chronomancer Tothmek observing the chaos on Kronus from orbit, where Space Marines and Orks endlessly squabble over who is worthy of ruling the world.

Looking down on the planet with cold disdain, Tothmek laments the desecration of his people’s tombs. Lesser races have overrun the sacred world of ancient dynasties. To the sound of mechanical chants, he unleashes his full military might—endless ranks of Necron warriors rise in unison alongside Triarch Stalkers, swarms of Canoptek Scarabs, and Lych Guards. The climax is a colossal Necron fleet assembled above Kronus, ready to obliterate all who stand in its way.

The community reaction was immediate—the video has already been dubbed “the best intro” ever shown. And this did not arrive as an empty claim: the trailer truly sets a dark, despairing tone that was sorely lacking in previous announcements.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 Necron Strategy and Gameplay Features

The Necrons in Dawn of War IV are one of the most distinctive and mechanically unique factions. Their economy, tactics, and combat philosophy are radically different from anything seen before in the series. If you are used to building a base, accumulating resources, and growing an army using traditional methods, get ready to relearn.

Necron army Dawn of War

Necron Resource System and Dominion Grid Mechanics

Necrons do not have the traditional Requisition and Energy systems. Instead, they mine a single resource: Dominion. Its supply is directly dependent on the distribution of the energy grid across the map—the more territory covered, the faster the resource flows.

The grid not only provides the Necrons with resources but also strengthens their troops in the territory they control, accelerating health regeneration and unit regeneration. Essentially, an army only truly realizes its potential on “home” soil.

This mechanic is reminiscent of the Zerg creep from StarCraft, but there is a fundamental difference. While creep primarily serves as an element of territory control and infrastructure support, the Necron grid becomes a fully-fledged tactical tool, directly increasing the army’s combat effectiveness.

Teleporting Armies via Monoliths and Tomb Pylons

One of the main problems of classic RTS games is the time it takes to transport troops. The Necrons solve this problem radically. They have Tomb Pylons and Monoliths, through which they can teleport their armies to virtually any point on the map. They have 10 units in reserve, compared to 5 for Space Marines, and these units can be instantly deployed through any built pylon.

This means the Necrons are capable of unleashing fresh forces on the enemy at any time, anywhere on the front. The enemy will constantly have to guess where the attack will come from.

Unit Resurrection Process and Resurrection Gallery Buildings

Resurrection Galleries are buildings that “fix” a specific type of unit. After the death of such a unit, it begins to slowly regenerate for free. Destroying another unit of the same type accelerates the process.

It is not enough for the enemy to kill your soldiers—they need to destroy the galleries, otherwise the Necron army will return again and again. This creates constant pressure on the opponent, forcing them to reconsider their decisions every minute.

New Armor System and Adeptus Mechanicus Counters

In a recent analysis of the Necrons vs. Adeptus Mechanicus match, bloggers clearly demonstrated the reworked armor system. Infantry is now capable of dealing damage to vehicles, and defense modifiers are calculated differently. This changes tactics—it is no longer possible to ignore infantry squads in favor of heavy armor.

Adeptus Mechanicus, on the other hand, rely on the Noosphere network—it unlocks powerful global bonuses and upgrades, but makes the base extremely vulnerable to targeted sabotage. The contrast between the factions is enormous, and each battle promises to be unique.
