Fortnite’s v41.20 update, timed to coincide with the launch of the “Hot Indian Summer” event, brought not only beach batmen and buggies to the island, but also something more serious. We’re talking about the mythical sniper rifle, the “Power Slam”—an improved version of the “Heavy Slam,” which instantly became a major headache for anyone who doesn’t like getting shot in the back of the head from across the map.

This sniper rifle outperforms the standard Legendary model in almost every key stat: 144 damage versus 138, a 2.55-second reload time versus 3.0, and a 3x headshot multiplier makes it the ultimate vengeance weapon. But getting your hands on it will require some serious work. No bosses—just two secret vaults, keys, and luck. Let’s break it down.

Where to find the Mythic Sniper Rifle in Fortnite

Unlike most Mythic guns, this one doesn’t drop from bosses or appear in chests with a 0.01% chance. Epic Games has been clever—they’ve hidden it in two Epic Sprite Vaults, which spawn in fixed locations on the map. And yes, only two rifles are available in each match. So if you’re not the first, consider yourself too late.

Locations of the Two Epic Sprite Vaults

Fortnite Sprite Vault

The vaults are located in the following locations:

  • Ominous Streak — under the building locals call “The Mold.” The entrance is inconspicuous; look for a hatch or destructible floor.
  • Frostbite Plains — eastern section, under a building on the edge of a cliff. The landmark is a large metal pipe sticking out of the snow.

Approaching the vault, you’ll see a lock that requires an Epic Keycard. Without it, you can’t get there. But finding the key is a whole other adventure.

Method to Get an Epic Vault Keycard

The keycard drops randomly from common and rare chests throughout the map. A chance isn’t guaranteed—it’s pure roulette. Players’ experience suggests that keys are most often found in chests at high-loot POIs (for example, in the Acid Factory or Mega-City). However, relying on luck is a tactic for the desperate. It’s best to search every chest you find until you drop the coveted card. Once you have it, run to the nearest vault. And remember: there are only two vaults, and competitors are also on the lookout.

Stats and Damage of the Heavy Strike Rifle

At first glance, it’s the same “Heavy Strike,” only with a shiny outline. But the numbers speak for themselves. Below is the full stat table, compiled from patch notes and confirmed by testing.

Parameter Value
Damage 144
Headshot Damage (x3) 432
Structure Damage 275
Magazine Size 1
Fire Rate 0.64
Reload Time 2.55 s

It’s clear: one shot and the enemy is either dead (if it’s a headshot) or loses almost all of their shields. And buildings are even more so. Any hastily erected wooden wall is reduced to splinters in a single hit. But most importantly, the rifle has no damage falloff over distance. This means that even at maximum range, you can kill an enemy with a single headshot if you’ve accounted for bullet drop correctly. The latter, by the way, is crucial.

A Guide to Ballistics and Shooting Tactics in Combat

Having a powerful sniper rifle is only half the battle. You also need to know how to use it. Otherwise, even 432 damage to the head will become just statistics, not a victory.

Features of Ballistics and Bullet Drop

The “Power Strike” fires a heavy bullet with noticeable gravity drop at ranges over 150 meters. It’s not a laser cannon—you’ll have to adjust for elevation. Tip: aim slightly above the enemy’s head, using the reticle mark (the third dot from the bottom—for ranges of ~200 meters). Many beginners stumble over this point and miss. But if you practice on single targets in Creative Mode, you’ll quickly get the hang of it.

Effective Long Range Combat Tactics

Your goal is to avoid being spotted prematurely. A sniper rifle is a first-shot weapon. The best position is high ground with a good view and the ability to quickly take cover after firing. After firing, reload immediately (2.55 seconds isn’t that long) and change position to avoid detection. If you miss, don’t panic—you still have a chance, but the enemy will already know where the shot came from.

In duels with other snipers, it’s important to seize the initiative: shoot first, even if you’re unsure of your hit—this will force the enemy to go on the defensive and give you time to reload. Experienced players use “Power Strike” not only for kills but also for zone control: if you knock out a wall near an enemy’s cover, your partner can finish them off with a shotgun.

Best Loadout and Mythic Weapon Build

Fortnite Heavy Strike Rifle

A sniper rifle is a situational weapon. It’s useless at close range, so your inventory should be well-equipped for all ranges. Here’s the optimal setup, tested in hundreds of matches:

  • Primary weapon for mid-range combat: an assault rifle (preferably the “Skrepa” or “Twist” rifles). It will allow you to finish off enemies that are left with 50-70 HP after your shot.
  • Close-quarters combat: a shotgun (the classic “Thunder” or “Bump”). When an enemy gets too close, you won’t have time to reload your sniper rifle—the shotgun will save the day.
  • Mobility: a jetpack or a hail shield. They will help you quickly gain the high ground or evade retribution.
  • Healing: mini-shields and a med spray. After each battle, you will lose HP, even if you killed an enemy with one shot (especially if they managed to hit you).

Important: don’t equip grenades or other gadgets in your slots unless they are critical. Every slot is worth its weight in gold. And most importantly, don’t forget about ammo. Heavy Strike requires Heavy Bullets, which are rarely found in chests, so be sure to loot them from defeated enemies.

A few more words about the event

Hot Bat Summer will last until the end of the current season, and the developers have promised a few more surprises. You can already find Batman’s Beach Buggy, Grappler, and a special sprite that provides a temporary buff on the island. The sniper rifle will likely disappear after the event ends, so enjoy it while you can. Competitors in the top 5 usually limit themselves to bare facts—we’ve given you tactics, builds, and comparisons. Now it’s up to you. Run to the vaults, get the keys, and prove that you’re the best sniper this season.
