The Great Inagua Hideout in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced isn’t just a pirate home, but a fully-fledged hub that expands with new features as you progress. Investments in the estate and surrounding buildings pay off with passive income, upgrades for the Jackdaw, and additional slots for Kenway’s fleet. The problem is, you won’t have enough money for everything at once, and the order in which you invest directly impacts how smoothly you progress through the game. Let’s explore what to upgrade, in what order, and where to get real money.

How to unlock the Hideout upgrade in Black Flag Resynced?

Access to the Hideout is unlocked as part of the story—in Sequence 4, during the quest “This Old Cove.” Afterward, you gain control of Great Inagua and can begin investing in its development.

Great Inagua hideout overview

Upgrades are divided into two types:

  • Estate – upgrades to the mansion itself. To make them, you need to go to the main building in the eastern part of the island, go to the office in the northwest corner, and interact with the stack of cards on the table labeled “Upgrade Shelter.”
  • Buildings on the island include the trading post, the dock office, the tavern, and others. To restore them, you need to find NPCs with a square icon above their heads at the pier or in the surrounding area and speak with them.

Step-by-Step Strategy – What to Upgrade First

The main rule: shelter investments should work for you, not just sit idle. Here’s the optimal order that will allow you to confidently progress through the game without unnecessary pain.

Step 1. Port Office (500 + 2,500 + 5,000 reals)

This is the most important building on the island. It unlocks high-level upgrades for the Jackdaw—armor, cannons, ram, and mortars. In Nassau, the Port Master only provides basic upgrades, but anything that truly changes the balance of naval combat requires upgrading the Port Office on Great Inagua. Once you purchase upgrades here, they become available at any Port Master on the map. This is a highly specialized but critical investment that pays off in every subsequent battle.

Step 2. Trading Post (500 + 2,500 + 5,000 reals)

Once the ship has gained access to serious upgrades, it’s time to gear up Edward. High-level crafting requires rare hides, and instead of spending hours running through the jungle, it’s easier to buy everything you need at a well-equipped shop. Level 3 unlocks legendary weapons—not just a convenience, but a direct boost in ground skirmishes.

Step 3. Estate — Facade (4,000 reals)

This upgrade grants a Protective Money Box—passive income that accrues every minute you’re outside of Greater Inagua. Initially, the box provides 20 reals per minute with a limit of 2,000 reals. It’s not much, but it’s something. Further upgrades to the estate increase both the limit and the speed of refilling.

Step 4. Tavern (100 reals)

Cheap and useful. Unlocks three expert-level minigames and increases the chance of encountering a Royal Convoy—a great source of loot.

Step 5. Bonfire (6,000 reals) and Brothel (6,000 reals)

Both require the Tavern. The Bonfire provides free drunkard recruitment (saving on crew costs) and +2 slots for Kenway’s fleet. The Brothel provides free dancers and a crew damage buff. Which you take first depends on your style: if you actively use your fleet, choose the Bonfire; if you mostly board, choose the Brothel.

Step 6. The rest – as you accumulate reals

The Treasure Merchant and Fishing Wharf are useful, but not urgent investments. They increase passive income and unlock exclusive items, but they don’t provide critical bonuses, which are essential for progressing through the game.

How to quickly earn reals for upgrades?

All these upgrades cost hundreds of thousands of reals combined. Here are the most effective ways to farm in Black Flag Resynced.

Protective Money Box

Basic passive income. After the first estate upgrade, the box collects 20 reals per minute, with a limit of 2,000. Each subsequent estate level increases these figures. Return to the island as it fills – it’s free money.

Boarding ships and hunting for rum and sugar

The most reliable and stable source. In Resynced, the prices of some goods are higher than in the original: a barrel of rum now costs 30 reals (instead of 15), and a batch of sugar costs 40 reals. Unlike wood and metal, rum and sugar are not required for upgrades, so they can be safely sold. Boarding also provides free practice in naval combat.

Assassin Contracts

Available after visiting the Mayan temple in Conttoyor (a mission that cannot be missed). Completing a contract rewards 1,500 reals, and completing an additional condition (such as an assassination from above) provides an additional +500 bonus. Fast, simple, and profitable.

Naval Contracts at Forts

After capturing forts, special naval contracts are unlocked—about fifteen of them scattered across the map. Each one rewards at least 2,500 reals, plus loot from sunken ships. The tasks are simple, with the rare exception of escort missions.

Underwater Expeditions

Open after the mission “Diving for Medicine” in Sequence 6. Chests containing several thousand reals and rare weapons lie at the bottom of shipwrecks. Be careful with sharks, jellyfish, and oxygen supplies.

Top 5 Best Jackdaw Ship Upgrades and Their Impact on Gameplay

The Port Office on Great Inagua is the key to the Jackdaw’s most powerful upgrades. Here are the five upgrades you should prioritize.

Jackdaw ship upgrades menu

1. Armored Hull

Survivability is key. Without armor, any serious battle is a lottery. Levels II–IV increase damage resistance from 800 to 1800. The final level, level V, requires the Ultimate Hull Armor blueprint—it’s found in a chest in the San Ignacio shipwreck (coordinates ~352, 744).

2. Mortar

A long-range weapon that allows you to deal damage before the enemy gets within broadside range. Critical against battleships and forts.

3. Round and Heated Shot

Increases the damage of broadside cannons. Heated cannons set fire to enemy ships, causing additional damage over time.

4. Bow Chasers

Allows you to attack the enemy from the front – indispensable during pursuit, intercepting a fleeing ship and preventing it from escaping.

5. Ram

For an aggressive style. Increases ramming damage and adds unpredictable aggression to naval battles. Allows you to end battles faster, but requires precise distance calculation.

Bottom line: the refuge on Great Inagua is not a decoration, but an engine of progress. Invest in the Port Office first, then the Trading Post, then the Estate – and your passive income will start working for you, and the Jackdaw will turn into a machine of destruction. Complete the remaining buildings as you have free reals. And don’t forget about rum and sugar—they’ve become significantly more expensive in Resynced.
