Rumors regarding story-based expansions for Final Fantasy VII Revelation have taken concrete shape: nine DLC items and a standalone “Story Expansion Pass” were discovered in the Epic Games Store database. While the trilogy’s finale is scheduled for early 2027, the leak suggests Square Enix is already laying the groundwork for post-launch support.
Data uncovered via the third-party service EpicDB lists not only the standard edition but also Premium and Premium Plus editions, alongside nine DLC packs. Some of these will likely include bonus content—such as summons and gear—similar to what was released for Remake and Rebirth. However, the most significant find is the Story Expansion Pass. Square Enix has yet to issue an official statement, but the mere presence of such an item in the listing speaks volumes.

Why didn’t Rebirth get DLC, yet Revelation is set to receive it?
The trilogy’s second installment lacked major story expansions, and there was a clear reason for this. Back in 2024, Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the team consciously opted against INTERmission-style DLC to focus all resources on developing the third game. Resources are finite, and the decision was made to prioritize the finale.
The situation is different now. Revelation marks the conclusion rather than an intermediate step. Post-launch, the team gains a window for experimentation that wasn’t available during Rebirth’s development. It is a logical time to revisit the concept of story expansions—and the Epic Games Store leak indicates that plans are already in the works.
Hamaguchi has, incidentally, offered reasons for optimism more than once. At last year’s Tokyo Game Show, he stated that the team had concrete ideas for additional story content. Furthermore, in a Famitsu interview following Summer Game Fest, the director noted that if there was sufficient fan demand, the studio would be willing to pursue this path. By all appearances, that demand already exists—and it is substantial. Which characters from the FFVII universe might get their own DLC in Revelation?
Fan speculation is already in full swing, with three main possibilities frequently cited.
-
Dirge of Cerberus — a spin-off centered on Vincent Valentine, set several years after the finale of the original FFVII. Vincent is one of the most requested characters for a standalone story. If Square Enix decides to adapt this material, fans would finally get a modern take on events that previously existed only in a separate game.
-
Advent Children — a feature-length CG film that serves as a direct continuation of Cloud and his team’s story. Hamaguchi has already hinted that the connection between Revelation and Advent Children might be more significant than it currently appears. This isn’t just guesswork; the director has spoken about incorporating characters and locations from spin-offs into the main game.
-
Crisis Core — a prequel starring Zack Fair. The potential appearance of Genesis, the main antagonist of Crisis Core, is also a hot topic within the community.
It remains to be seen exactly which format the developers will choose. It could be an adaptation of existing storylines or a completely original tale. However, the mere fact that Square Enix is considering expanding the universe beyond the trilogy is a major development in itself.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release in early 2027. The game will launch simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC—with no exclusivity windows. And beyond that? We might be looking not at a finale, but at a new chapter.
