GTA 6 Pre-Orders: Xbox Denies PS5 Domination and Teases Game Pass Advantage - Image 1

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI opened just a few days ago, and while Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are keeping mum on the numbers, the first data has already leaked online. According to information published by IGN, the PlayStation 5 is outselling the Xbox Series X|S by a significant margin—the ratio is rumored to be as high as 8:1. This figure aligns with recent reports of a possible shortage of Sony consoles before Christmas, and also with the majority of buyers opting for the most expensive version, the Ultimate Edition.

The source cites data from the IGN Finds affiliate program, which claims the difference is truly enormous—the same 8:1 against the Xbox. Incidentally, the article includes a link to a more detailed analysis of how GTA influences console sales, but the gist is already clear: fans are more actively voting with their rubles for the Sony version.

Why such an advantage? Most likely, this reflects the PlayStation audience’s traditional devotion to blockbusters of this caliber, plus possible exclusive bonuses for the PS5, which haven’t been publicly discussed yet. Xbox owners, on the other hand, can count on Game Pass—and if GTA VI is included in the subscription (even if not immediately), some players will prefer to wait. However, this is just speculation.

The information, although targeted at IGN Finds subscribers, quickly spread online. So much so that Windows Central requested a comment from Xbox. A Microsoft representative responded cautiously, urging caution and waiting for official statistics, stating that their own pre-orders are record-breaking. “People should focus on actual numbers, not clicks on affiliate links,” they retorted.

Well, we can only wait for the first official reports from Take-Two. But if IGN’s data is even partially accurate, GTA VI is already breaking all conceivable records for interest—and this despite the game not being released until the fall of 2026. For now, the industry is holding its breath, waiting to see who’s truly leading the pre-order race.
