Microsoft held its annual Xbox Games Showcase, and the audience was once again divided. Some were delighted, others disappointed. But let’s take things one step at a time.

Xbox Games Showcase 2026 Summary Major Game Announcements

The show started off strong: the first few projects looked like they were made for consoles of the future—the graphics, animation, and production design were top-notch. Then came the standard set of big announcements, and then… a flop. Viewers noticed obvious filler between the hits. One game that many had been betting on did not pan out. The finale did not help either—instead of a full-fledged story campaign, they showed a separate mode, which was disappointing.

But ratings ranged from four to five stars out of a possible six. Why such a wide range?

Gamer Reviews and Initial Ratings of the Xbox Games Showcase

Some called the show “calm but solid”—saying the graphics were superb, the surprises were pleasant, and a couple of games were coming soon. Others went to extremes: “a real bomb,” “the best show in years.” Still others sensed a catch—the word “exclusive” was used too sparingly, and the hints about the release of most titles on other platforms were too transparent. Still others were delighted by the fireworks of the first minutes and the abundance of releases that were hard to ignore.

So what exactly was shown?

A spoiler-free list of major game announcements

  • Gears of War E-Day is a leading contender for GOTY 2026. It looks exactly as expected.
  • Halo Campaign Evolved is a surprise summer release, with a simultaneous release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Fast, bold, and without unnecessary expectations.
  • Fable is being developed by the creators of Forza Horizon, and judging by the trailer, the team was inspired by The Witcher. Intriguing.
  • State of Decay 3 — finally revealed more than just a teaser.
  • Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 (the latter will be coming straight to Xbox Game Pass) — two strikes from Atlus in one show.
  • Metro 2039 — expected in February, no delays (for now).
  • Sea of Thieves — a free update, and it’s quite extensive.
  • Hellblade 3: Senua — now that was a surprise. No one expected an announcement so soon.
  • Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember (from Koei Tecmo) — slated for 2027, so be patient.
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages — the Revelations expansion has received a firm release date.
  • Crazy Taxi: World Tour — a reboot of Sega’s legendary arcade game. Yes, that one.
  • Spyro: A Realm Beyond — official, no rumors.
  • Clockwork Revolution — a new Xbox exclusive from the creators of Wasteland 3, but not until 2027.
  • Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse — Konami has finally remembered the series.
  • DMZ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — marketed as a “full-fledged shooter with extraction elements.” Sounds ambitious.

Overall, the selection is solid. There’s something for both hardcore fans and those who log into Game Pass once a month. There were some low points, but overall, it’s mostly positive. Now we just have to wait for actual gameplay.

Hellblade Senua reboot and a new Castlevania game from Konami

Developers Ninja Theory will turn Senua into an action game instead of a horror game

The Hellblade franchise is completely changing its direction — the next installment will be released under the succinct title Senua. Ninja Theory has decided to ditch the cumbersome subtitles and completely rework the established concept. The narrative-focused corridor-based psychological horror is being replaced by a full-fledged action adventure. Players will experience an open, seamless world, a tactical combat system, and large-scale boss battles reminiscent of dark fantasy.

The announcement came as a complete surprise to the industry, as insiders had not managed to leak any information before the presentation. The developers had been promoting previous games in the series for years, and now they have released a detailed gameplay trailer. The project will be coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and—remarkably—PS5. The release is scheduled for 2027.

Release date for the new Castlevania Belmont Curse from Japanese studio Konami

Fans of the cult vampire saga had given up hope for a comeback and were already playing Bloodstained, but Konami knows how to surprise. To celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary, the Japanese publisher announced Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a classic 2D action game. The team behind the successful Castlevania expansion for Dead Cells is developing it. These developers clearly understand how a proper Metroidvania should work.

The gameplay’s main features will be gravity manipulation and the ability to travel inside the game’s scenes. The best part is, you will not have to wait years. The project was not included in analysts’ forecasts, but it has received a firm release date: October 15, 2026.

Persona 6 Official Announcement and a Green Xbox Series X25

First Persona 6 Teaser and Persona 4 Revival Announcement from Atlus

Long-running rumors about the mysterious “green” visual style of Atlus’s next JRPG have finally been confirmed. The developers delivered a double blow during their stream: first, they revealed the release date of Persona 4 Revival, and then showed the first teaser for Persona 6. Fans did not get any full gameplay or character demos. The short video focused on the eerie imagery of a graveyard and collages of faces, ending with the P6 logo. Nevertheless, the official confirmation itself puts to rest the debate about the game’s existence, which has raged since 2022.

Retro Design Features of the New Xbox Series X25

The main hardware surprise of the exhibition was a new revision of the console, called the Xbox Series X25. No one predicted the release of this hardware. The device’s main feature is its translucent green plastic case, which instantly evokes the design of the very first Xbox from 2001.

The anniversary console will come with a similarly designed gamepad. Microsoft has prepared a great gift for collectors and long-time fans of the brand, which will go on sale in November.

Gears of War E Day Gameplay and Exact Release Dates for Expected Games

Insider and industry media predicted a good half of the games from Microsoft’s presentation. No surprises were expected from these titles—everything followed a predetermined scenario.

  • Gears of War: E-Day. Players were expecting to see gameplay, and they got it. A bonus is the exact release date: the shooter will become exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem on October 6th.
  • Halo: Campaign Evolved. After the recent massive leak of screenshots from the digital store, the announcement of Operation Meteorite was only a matter of time. The full launch of the shooter will take place on July 28th.
  • Fable. News of the delay of Playground Games’ role-playing game was already circulating online. At the show, they only specified the release date—February 23, 2027—and introduced a new antagonist named Isabelle.
  • Doom: The Dark Ages — Revelations. Instead of the expected major expansion, id Software unveiled a full-fledged release. The fresh, meaty action game will be released surprisingly quickly—July 7.
  • Crazy Taxi: World Tour. The project had been mentioned in various leaks for a long time. The release of a trailer set to the iconic track by The Offspring confirmed the official title, but it did not cause much of a surprise.
  • Spyro: A Realm Beyond. Rumors from trusted insiders were fully confirmed. The developers teased the return of the purple dragon, but kept the exact release date under wraps.

Xbox Games Showcase 2026 Stream Schedule and Start Time

The presentation will take place on Sunday, June 7, as part of Summer Game Fest. The show starts at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. For those accustomed to local time, that’s 1:00 PM in New York, 6:00 PM in London, and 7:00 PM in Berlin. Moscow will fall into a convenient evening slot at 8:00 PM. Sydney residents will have to stay up until 3:00 AM on June 8th.

How long will the show last? Xbox is currently holding back on precise timing. But based on past years, they usually keep it under two hours. This also includes Developer Direct, which lasts about 45 minutes.

Rumors Predictions and Confirmed Games for the Xbox Anniversary Show

Xbox is turning 25 this year. And Summer Game Fest looks like the perfect venue to celebrate in style. Gears of War: E-Day has already been confirmed. Halo: Campaign Evolved, which was announced just a few days ago, will almost certainly be included in the program as well. There’s a good chance we’ll see State of Decay 3. The zombie apocalypse survival game with crafting just completed its latest alpha testing phase in May. So there’s plenty to show.

But what about the latest Fable 4 content? That’s also a possibility. Especially given its recent delay to 2027—the developers need to keep the public interested somehow.

The Elder Scrolls 6 probably will not be appearing on stage. But the stream chat will still be filled with questions about the sixth “Scrolls”—it’s become a tradition.

Prequel Story Details to Be Released at Gears of War E Day Direct

Immediately after the main presentation, Gears of War: E-Day Direct will launch. There, developers from The Coalition promise more details: they will talk about the prequel and how Marcus Fenix became who we know him as. We’re waiting.
