In 007 First Light, Bond has a full arsenal of spy toys, from smoke bombs to hacking clock systems. But you won’t be able to carry everything with you: there are only three slots for gadgets. In addition, one will open later, in a mission called “Nightfall”. So you will have to choose carefully, according to your own style of passing.

At the beginning, the agent receives three devices, then the collection grows. The developers from PCGamesN admitted that working on gadgets was the hardest. They came up with a lot of ideas, but some of them looked too fantastic — for example, gadgets that give almost magical abilities. They were abandoned in order not to destroy the spirit of the bond. Eight gadgets appeared in the final version of 007 First Light. They can be used to blow smoke, put enemies to sleep, and interfere with vehicles.

Now — what is real to take with you, and what to leave at the base. We have compiled a rating of all available devices.

Ranking all spy gadgets in 007 First Light

The developers have added eight devices, but our table contains the seven most useful ones. One, alas, never found his hour.

Tier Gadget
S Q-Watch, Dart Phone, Laser Strap
A Missile Pen, Flash Mine
B Smoke Rod, Shockwave Camera

Q-Watch Smartwatch Features and Hidden Capabilities

They open in the second mission (“New Home”). Watches are a must-have accessory for many. They are needed in every story mission, so you can’t leave them at the base. The functionality is very extensive: to see through walls, check the pockets of passers-by (whether it is possible to steal something), find goals and points of interest.

Q-Watch gadget interface

Another killer feature is hints on the stability of enemies. For example, an ordinary civilian will fall from a Dart Phone shot. And the armored guard won’t even twitch. Knowing this in advance, you won’t waste batteries and chemicals. Plus, the watch hacks cameras and electronics, distracting opponents and disabling tracking systems. It’s a base, but sometimes that’s just enough.

Overview of additional devices for the agent

Dart Phone — puts you to sleep from a distance, ideal for stealth. Laser Strap — a belt with a laser that cuts wires and opens locked doors. Both are solid S-dash. The Missile Pen and Flash Mine are good, but situational — you can do without them. Smoke Pod and Shockwave Camera are rather niche ones: smoke saves when escaping, and the shock camera stuns, but requires proper installation.

The main advice: always keep a Q-Watch and one of the attacking gadgets. The third slot is for the situation. The fourth slot, we remind you, will open in mission 7 — you can already walk around there.

Stealthy Elimination of Opponents with the Dart Phone

Dart Phone stealth gadget

It opens in the second mission (“New Home”). This chemical gadget is one of the first in Bond’s arsenal. And extremely effective. You shoot a dart. The target starts to get confused, looks for the nearest trash can or corner, and turns it out.

Enemy affected by dart

Yes, that’s right. While the poor guy is suffering, you calmly pass by, steal from him or eliminate him without making too much noise. This effect lasts longer than it seems. After all, the victim needs to reach the place of “relief”. Compared to the temporary distraction of hacking the printer with the Q-Watch, the Dart Phone gives you a head start if you need to stay in the zone longer.

By the way, the gadget is also good because it works unnoticeably. No flashes, no explosions. Just a soft click — and the enemy is already halfway to the trash.

Application of the universal laser strap

Laser Strap device

You will reach it in mission 4 “The past does not die”. The type is electronics. And it’s one of Bond’s most versatile toys.

The laser belt can shoot a red beam into the enemy’s eyes. He flinches wildly — it’s enough to sneak past or pick his pockets. However, the distraction doesn’t last long, so don’t yawn.

But the main thing is that the belt cuts metal locks. Very valuable for a stealthy passage. Bond, of course, can kick down the door, but the noise will attract all the guards. And in some cases, the leg won’t help at all. Laser Strap solves the problem quietly and elegantly.

Laser cutting door lock

And one more characteristic detail: the beam can set explosive barrels on fire. Set off fireworks and several enemies will fly apart. It’s not the most secretive way, but it’s spectacular and effective when you need to quickly clear an area.

Missile Pen Specifications

Missile Pen weapon

Of James Bond’s entire arsenal of offensive gadgets, the Missile Pen is out of competition. You will receive it last, simultaneously with the opening of the fourth device slot. Mission 7, Nightfall, type — chemicals. It couldn’t be easier to use: aimed, fired. A small rocket explodes and is capable of taking down several opponents at once.

Surprisingly, this gadget is quite secretive. It doesn’t give away your position instantly — you can launch a rocket to distract yourself and quietly disappear into the shadows. In terms of overall usefulness, the Missile Pen is, of course, inferior to highly specialized stealth devices. But if your goal is a loud commotion, take it without hesitation. Fact: this is the best choice for those who are tired of hiding.

The Best Spy Gadget Combos and Combo Synergies

Spy gadget combinations

Three active slots in the inventory is not a dull limitation from the developers, but a full—fledged optimization puzzle. The basic devices do an excellent job of doing their tasks individually. But the real magic begins the moment you combine their effects correctly.

Stealth Tactics with the Q-Watch and Dart Phone

Your starter kit for quiet operations. First, the Q-Watch smartwatch scans obstacles and highlights enemy resistors (so as not to accidentally release a charge on a heavily armored bully). Next, Dart Phone comes into play. The vomiting effect of a smartphone disables a security guard from the game much longer than a banal hack of the nearest surveillance camera. This pair is indispensable if you need to dig in tightly on the location. Hacking into the terminal, pulling loot out of your pockets and beautifully walking away right from under the patrol’s nose with such a setup will not be difficult.

Quickly crack locks with the Q-Watch and Laser Strap

The best choice for deep penetration into closed objects. All electronics, digital locks and cameras are taken over by the watch. But the Laser Strap instantly deals with heavy mechanical obstacles. There are no more tightly sealed paths. By the way, there is one cool, non-obvious trick. You dazzle a patrolman with a bright laser flash in his eyes, cut the lock in a second and disappear into the shadows without a single rustle.

Assault setup of Laser Strap and Missile Pen

Has stealth failed and the fuss has started? It’s time to move on to the loud sweep. Use a laser to detonate explosive objects right next to a crowd of opponents. Shell-shocked and survivors are quickly picked up by the Missile Pen, with your initial position remaining hidden. The bundle works amazingly in open industrial areas, turning the environment itself into your main weapon.

Cheat sheet on effective combos:

  • Q-Watch + Dart Phone (Stealth). Intelligence plus spot neutralization. Rescues in narrow corridors with heavy patrols.
  • Q-Watch + Laser Strap (Infiltration). A total hack of electronics and mechanics. It breaks through any double door protection.
  • Laser Strap + Missile Pen (Action). Massive undermining of the environment and finishing off. The perfect solution for outdoor arenas.
  • Flash Mine + Dart Phone (Hybrid). A blind mine and a dart. It works against a bunch of groups that can’t be easily bypassed.
  • Q-Watch + Missile Pen (Action). A scan through the walls and a volley. The ultimate choice for the final stages of the level.

The default build for startup looks like this. The first slot is tightly occupied by the storyline Q-Watch, we throw a Dart Phone or a cutter into the second cell, and leave the third one for the special mission. The real fun begins after the “Nightfall” task. As soon as you pick up the fourth slot, feel free to equip the Missile Pen — your ultimate combat configuration has finally been assembled.
