In our latest Windrose guide, we’ll explore one of those resources essential for crafting decent armor: Flax Fiber. Beginners often overlook it—and they shouldn’t, because it’s what makes for durable equipment.

Flax Fiber: Region and Collection

This resource is obtained exclusively in the Foothills. Look for flowering flax bushes with white and purple flowers—they’re scattered throughout the region. Hit the plant with any sharp tool (an axe or weapon will do), and the fiber is yours.
By digging around Foothills Island, you’ll quickly gather the required amount: flax fiber is rarer than regular plant fiber, but it’s easy to find. The main challenge is getting to this region in the first place.
Fortunately, access to the Foothills (and the “Discoveries” menu, which lists all the local resources) is unlocked after completing the main quest “Revenge is Best Served Cold.” The recommended level for the journey is 8. However, the author, for example, entered the area at level 5 with improved gear—simply staying away from enemy camps. Encounters with the local fauna are inevitable: goats and wolves inhabit the region.
The Best Route for Farming Flax

Running chaotically through the Foothills is the first mistake newbies make. You run into a respawn point, lose momentum, and end up back in empty bushes. The solution is simple: a looping route with fixed spawn points. Once you complete the loop, the flax will have already regenerated by the time you return.
The optimal route around Foothills: 70-90% of the bushes without unnecessary combat
The basic route covers most of the region’s spawns and is built on the “loop farming” principle—a classic of the genre, which is 25-40% faster than random harvesting.
Resource Collection Route by Segments
How to get the most out of each circle?
A few habits that really impact your final fiber yield.
-
Pace is more important than drops – don’t stop at fights without loot; flax at the start is more valuable than XP.
-
Snake instead of straight – move 10-15 meters away from the road; that’s where most bushes are hidden.
-
Respawn timing – a full circle takes about 4-6 minutes; completed faster – add a detour along segment B → C near the cliffs.
-
Clean inventory – 1 slot holds 1 bush; excess junk cuts off farming prematurely.
-
Night cycle – use the bush’s silhouette, not its color: the contrast is noticeably lower at night.
How to avoid losing bushes in PvE?

Wolves aggro in packs – circle around the outer arc of segment C, don’t rush in. Goats are safe, but they waste time: ignore them without hesitation. If you do get aggroed, lead your opponents to the road. The fight is right in the spawn cluster, where there are 2-3 bushes that you won’t be able to pick up.
The route provides a steady stream of fiber without downtime: you return to points that have already been updated during the loop.
What to do with the flax fiber next?
The flax fiber needs to be processed into linen cloth. To do this, you’ll need a spinning wheel—you can build it through the construction panel immediately after you find at least one fiber. High-level armor is then crafted from the cloth. For example, the “Privateer’s Tricorne” hat (item level 6) requires one linen cloth, two tanned hides, and sewing tools. Crafting is available in the armor and clothing workshop.
Most importantly, don’t try to gather flax before the quest—you won’t be allowed to. And after that, you can come in at level five if you’re confident in combat.
