The organizer of the PGL esports tournaments made it clear to the audience that they are preparing to hold the second Counter-Strike 2 Major 2026 in Singapore in full swing. The news immediately spread throughout the community — after all, it’s about an event that closes the CS2 season and usually throws up a lot of controversy about the shape of the teams.

When will Singapore Major 2026 take place and why is it important for CS2

The PGL Singapore Major 2026 tournament is scheduled for the period from November 25 to December 13, right at the end of the Valve shooter season.

The format itself is familiar to the majors: a long distance, a busy calendar, and closer to the final days, the heat is already high, because the decisive matches will be played at the Singapore indoor stadium, which the CS community has long associated with high—profile tournaments.

Singapore Major will be the first large-scale Counter-Strike tournament of this level in Southeast Asia, and it fits well into the growing interest of the region in CS2. After discussions around the qualification stages and the allocation of VRS slots, it becomes clear: Valve is trying to expand its geography, and PGL is actively adapting to this vector.

The fifth major from PGL and the memory of past cities

This is the fifth major for PGL.

From 2021 to 2024, the company hosted major tournaments in Stockholm, Antwerp and Copenhagen — each of them had its own atmosphere. Those events are often remembered because of the bright finals, unexpected victories and the usual conversations about who fell short of the title again.

PGL CEO Silviu Stroye

PGL CEO Silviu Stroye described the feeling of returning to a major CS tournament in Singapore in a simple and human way:

“Hosting the first big Counter-Strike tournament in Singapore is a story we’ve been working towards for a long time. We had events here that our viewers still remember, and the energy of the local audience has never let us down.”

His words fit well with the general mood of the community: fans of the region have been asking for a large-scale CS2 tournament for a long time, and now it’s finally on the calendar.

How will the 2026 major season go?

  • The structure of the season remains similar to 2025: two majors again.
  • The first speaker will be the IEM Cologne Major, which ESL will hold from June 2 to 21.
  • The winter stage is already the Singapore Major.

Both tournaments will feature 32 teams selected through the Valve Regional Stands (VRS) system. They will compete for a prize pool of $1.25 million, which traditionally boosts competition in the final stages and increases the degree of best-of-five matches in the grand finals.

It is convenient to combine such tournaments into one seasonal narrative for viewing: the summer major gives an understanding of the shape of the tops, while the winter major either confirms their status or completely reverses expectations.

Why Singapore has become a new venue for major tournaments

Singapore and esports as a new regional scene

In 2025, Singapore became something of a hub for organizers: the city hosted competitions in several disciplines in a row.

BLAST Slam IV on Dota 2, which took place in the same legendary stadium, remains one of the typical examples. Fans are still discussing the event and how the local crowd keeps up the pace in the arena.

In parallel, there was another movement: the country’s authorities introduced an amendment, the 2025 Bill, which considers the inclusion of esports in the national sports system. For the region, this is a step that shows a serious approach, and for the organizers it is a signal that it is becoming easier and more profitable to hold tournaments here.

Why choosing PGL is logical for a growing Asian audience

PGL has long had a hand in major Counter-Strike events, and their experience is felt at every stage: from the schedule to the broadcast style of matches. Singapore is rapidly expanding its presence in the industry at this time — the city confidently claims to be a stable point for CS2 tournaments of an above-average class.

This vulnerable combination makes Singapore Major 2026 an event that not only fans, but also teams are already watching. The winner here will receive not only the title — the majors traditionally shape the history of the season around themselves, and sometimes an entire era of teams.

How to qualify and the top teams: who will go to Singapore

To qualify for Singapore Major 2026, teams need to gain positions in Valve’s Regional Rating (VRS), the official team strength assessment system. VRS has implemented a talented system with parameters for accumulating points for winning sanctioned tournaments throughout the year. Valve distributes it in a smart way into three zones: Europe, America and the Asia-Pacific region. According to this, 32 teams are divided into regions, the reason for this is the balance between the strength of the continents.

Europe traditionally takes the lion’s share of slots — about 16 places, given the decades of dominance in Counter-Strike. America receives approximately 10 invitations (broken down into North and South), while Asia receives 6 places. Based on this, Asian teams like The MongolZ or Chinese teams need to fight for every percentage in the table.

The VRS mechanics take into account several factors: the strength of defeated opponents, the prestige of the tournament, the freshness of the results (old matches “fade out” after a month) and the stability of the squad. If a team changes two or more players, some of the points are reset — Valve is fighting manipulation when organizations buy ready-made slots through transfers. In order to get into the Major closed qualifier, you need to enter the top of the region by the time invitations are sent, usually 6-8 weeks before the start of the tournament. The rest make their way through an open selection, where every match is worth its weight in gold.

HLTV cs 2

Who are the favorites for Singapore? As of the end of 2025, Team Vitality leads the HLTV world ranking with 961 points. The line—up includes legends like ZywOo (considered one of the best AWP’s of all time), ropz (moved from FaZe and instantly strengthened the lineup) and flameZ (deadly entry fragger). They are followed by Team Spirit with donk, a young MVP who, at the age of 20, is already turning over the cards alone. The MongolZ occupy the third place, becoming the pride of the Asian Counter-Strike and proving that the region is able to compete with Europe.

MOUZ and the new leader Brollan (who became IGL after siuhy’s unexpected bench) won PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 and now regularly qualify for the finals. Team Falcons with NiKo and m0NESY is a super team that has not won a major yet, but each tournament reaches a decisive stage, losing only to Vitality. NAVI, FaZe Clan and G2 Esports are also in the race, and NAVI has a form crisis after the 2024 triumph, while FaZe has lost ropz and has not yet found a balance with EliGE.

Asian teams like Aurora Gaming (Turkish roster with veteran XANTARES) and the aforementioned The MongolS will be eager to prove that Southeast Asia deserves more slots. Meanwhile, the Singapore Major will be a test for Perfect World Shanghai, the organizers of the last major tournament in the region, who showed that Asia knows how to make a show on a global level. Fans are already discussing possible bracket predictions.: which European brand will fail in the first stage, whether donk will be able to take the third MVP in a row, whether NiKo will destroy his “curse of the majors” (he has never won a major trophy in his career).
