Naughty Dog has announced that they will be releasing The Last of Us: Part 3 after the debut of the PlayStation 6. According to insider Detective Seeds, this highly anticipated third installment is currently in the early phases of development. As a result, fans should not expect to see it hit the shelves until at least the middle of the PlayStation 6’s lifecycle, which means it is likely to arrive no sooner than 2030.
Naughty Dog in 2025: The Last of Us 3, Intergalactic and Secrets of Future Releases
Insider sources claim that Naughty Dog is actively working on the large-scale space story Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and in parallel, on another, still completely classified project. Rumors are already flaring up among fans that the mysterious development may be the long-awaited sequel to The Last of Us, although the studio itself is still keeping silent and has not given official confirmation.
It is curious that creative director Neil Druckmann has previously hinted at discussions of concepts for The Last of Us Part III. According to him, the team is seriously considering developing the story, but the path from idea to release can be long and laborious. The history of the series confirms this: the first game was released in 2013, and the sequel was released only in 2020, after a long seven-year wait. Given the modern scale and complexity of developing AAA projects, the current pause may well exceed the record interval that was between the two previous parts.
In a documentary that goes behind the scenes of the making of The Last of Us Part II, creative director Neil Druckmann shared an intriguing idea – to combine all three parts of the story into a single, powerful and emotionally rich narrative. Interestingly, this idea can be realized not only in the format of a new video game: a television adaptation is quite capable of becoming an equally improved platform for such an experiment.
While the game saga itself is slowly approaching its logical end, the television adaptation, on the contrary, is rapidly gaining momentum. The first season of The Last of Us received rave reviews from critics and viewers, earning the reputation of one of the most successful and accurate video game adaptations of all time. Unsurprisingly, expectations for the sequel were colossal. On April 13, 2025, HBO premiered the second season, which marks the first appearance of Abby, a character whose appearance in the second game sparked a flurry of discussions, debates, and even real fan battles. The series not only expands the boundaries of the universe, but also immerses viewers in an even deeper understanding of the motives, conflicts, and inner worlds of their favorite characters.
