EA Reschedules Battlefield REDSEC Open Series for 2026: What Happened to the Amateur Scene - Image 1
7 months ago vpesports

Electronic Arts unexpectedly postponed the start of the Battlefield REDSEC Open Series to 2026. The reason is a technical problem that specifically concerns amateur tournaments.

At the same time, the Professional Elite Series will be launched according to plan. That is, the problem affected only the open stage, where everyone can participate.

Why was the Open Series postponed?

In an official statement, EA admitted that the company wanted to launch both series simultaneously, but revealed a bug specific to the Open Series format. The developers decided not to take any chances and reschedule the launch.

“We understand that this makes the participants and fans sad,” EA noted. There are no specifics about the nature of the problem, but judging by the wording, we are talking about mechanics that work differently in open lobbies with a large number of unknown players.

The matches were scheduled to start on December 12, 2025, but are now in limbo. EA promises to announce new dates early next year when the bug is fixed.

What is the Open Series and why is it important?

The Open Series is an entry point into the Battlefield REDSEC ecosystem for novice esports players. Fortunately, there are no barriers in terms of level: register on Register.gg Assemble a team and make your way to the lead in the table.

Such new trends form three regions: the Americas, EMEA, and the Asia-Pacific region. Each has a prize pool of $10,000 (~7,500 pounds) for the best squads of the season finale.

The main value of the series is the opportunity to get into the Elite Series of the next season. It is this combination of “amateurs → pros” that makes the Open Series critically important for the long-term viability of the Battlefield esports scene.

Now this ladder has been broken for at least a few months.

Elite Series starts unchanged

The flagship professional tournament will launch on December 10, 2025. Everything is going according to schedule here.

The Elite Series features 50 captains who form teams through a draft. The goal is to enter the top 25 of the region and receive a share of the prize pool of $1 million (~750,000 pounds).

How the Elite Series schedule works

Game days: December 10, 11 and 16. The season finales are on December 18, 2025. The start time depends on the region.

Each day is divided into two stages:

Stage 1: Six battle royale matches. Two groups of 25 teams. The goal is to score points through survival and elimination, to get into the top 4 of your group.

Stage 2: Gauntlet mode. Eight teams (four from each group) enter a round-robin system with tasks. The two worst teams are eliminated each round until there is a winner.

The format of the seasonal finals

The top 25 teams are fighting in a single battle royale lobby. The top 8 advance to the final Gauntlet, where the champion of the season is determined. Final position in the table = position in the Gauntlet, where the last survivor takes the title.

How to prepare for the Open Series 2026: a beginner’s guide

While EA is working on the bugs, beginners have time to get comfortable with Battlefield REDSEC battle royale. Instructions on how to do it correctly so as not to merge the first matches of the Open Series when they finally start.

  1. Start with the Battle Royale Initiation. This is a stripped—down version of the Fort Lyndon map – only the southeastern sector, 48 players instead of a hundred. The mode was created specifically for training beginners in a less aggressive environment. Here you can understand the mechanics without stress, without getting an instant vape from the pro-squads.
  2. Sort out the classes. In the Open Series, you can’t do without understanding the roles. Assault is good at close and medium combat, Engineer opens storages and repairs equipment, Support distributes ammo and raises allies faster. Recon — your eyes on the map via the drone. The prize pool of $10,000 per region is shared by those who know how to work as a team, not solo heroes.
  3. Learn the map by the power of the weapon. Choose your drop—off points according to your route plan — short distances require urban complexes, long distances require open spaces. The helicopter’s route affects who gets to the point of interest first. Jump to the place within 1,200 meters of the trajectory.
  4. Don’t ignore the contracts. Completing missions gives you custom weapon drops from the classic Battlefield 6. Decoding missions are faster if you stand still — the scale is filled in automatically. High-risk player hunting tasks provide even higher rewards, but require coordination.
  5. The death zone is instantaneous. In REDSEC, a circle kills in a couple of seconds, no smooth loss of HP. Prolonged shootouts on the border of the zone = guaranteed loss. Plan your movement in advance, use smoke and transport for a safe passage.

Register registration.gg is already open to all regions — America, EMEA, APAC. By the time the Open Series starts in 2026, you should have a honed base: survival, coordination with the squad, and an understanding of class bonuses. Amateur scene REDSEC is not just entertainment, but a chance to break into the Elite Series next season. Get ready now while the others are waiting.

What will happen after all this?

The situation is twofold. On the one hand, EA did not launch a raw product and risk the reputation of the tournament. On the other hand, the delay affects novice players who were preparing for their debut.

The professional ecosystem is working, but without the influx of new talent through the Open Series, it risks locking itself into famous names. The year 2026 will show how quickly EA will solve the problem.

For now, it remains to follow the updates on the publisher’s social networks and hope that the technical problem will not be as critical as it seems.
