SK Gaming beat Movistar KOI 2-0 in the LEC Summer season

SK Gaming defeated Movistar KOI 2-0 during the regular part of the LEC Summer season on 22 August. The score looked simple, but both games became difficult after Movistar KOI took an early lead.

SK stayed calm after falling behind. The team protected its strongest attacking players, waited for a coordinated fight and punished rushed decisions. Wunder received the Player of the Series award after a strong performance on the top side of the map.

SK won after Movistar KOI took the lead

Movistar KOI built an early gold lead in the opening game and could move first near the river. The Movistar KOI jungler Elyoya moved freely, while SK had to watch the routes toward the river. Movistar KOI still needed to turn that lead into a destroyed tower or a defeated Dragon or Baron. SK avoided a desperate fight at that stage. The players cleared minions and placed wards on the main paths. Movistar KOI had more gold, but still needed to destroy the base to win.

The game changed when Movistar KOI failed to see several SK players approaching a fight. SK protected its strongest attacking players and won the battle. This gave SK time to defeat Dragon and place new wards near the river.

Wunder protected SK’s strongest attacking players

Wunder played a central role when SK took the lead. He handled pressure on the top side of the map and joined his teammates at the right time. His position allowed SK’s strongest attacking players to deal damage from a safe place. A player on the top side must do more than deal damage. Wunder also stood between his teammates and the first attack before each fight.

Movistar KOI had to watch him and could not easily attack a weaker target.

SK used that situation well by making one clear decision at a time. When a good chance appeared, all five players moved to the same area and attacked the same opponent.

SK also won after a difficult start in game two

Movistar KOI again found opportunities in game two, but the team could not use them to win. SK defended key buildings and did not chase opponents into areas without wards. During quieter periods, the SK players collected more gold and bought useful items before the next team fight. Movistar KOI player Supa needed enough space to attack safely. SK repeatedly attacked from more than one direction. When Supa moved too far forward, all five SK players could attack him.

Once SK gained control, the players attacked a tower. In other situations, they defeated Dragon or Baron. They did not waste time on a long chase. Each tower or monster increased the lead and made it harder for Movistar KOI to move safely across the map.

The victory improved SK’s position in the standings

The 2-0 result gave SK an important win near the end of the regular season. It also showed that the team can remain organised after an early deficit. This is useful against opponents who attack aggressively at the start. Movistar KOI must improve its communication after gaining a lead. A simple sequence would help: defeat the nearby minions, place wards and then attack a tower or one of the two large monsters.

Missing one step can give the opponent an easy team fight.

SK finished the series with a 2-0 victory after showing patient play. Wunder’s award reflected his individual work, but all five players had to make the same decision at the same time.

SK won the two games in different ways

SK did not win both games through the same move. In game one, the team survived the early pressure and found a good chance to fight. In game two, safer movement gave the strongest attacking players time to buy useful items. In both games, SK waited for a good moment to attack.

Movistar KOI created advantages but did not use them to take Dragon, Baron or towers. Clearing the next minion wave and watching the paths toward the river would make an early lead more useful in the next series.
