League patch 26.17 changes late-game carries and several core items

League of Legends patch 26.17 is now live with a focused set of champion and item changes. Riot has strengthened several melee attack-damage carries that struggled to reach a reliable late game.

The same update reduces the power of leading picks in other roles. Nasus and Vayne receive top-lane nerfs, while Xerath, Nocturne and Graves lose strength in their most successful positions.

Melee carries become more reliable in late-game fights

Irelia, Qiyana, Yasuo and Yone are among the main winners. Riot found that these champions often needed an early lead to remain useful. Falling slightly behind could remove their influence before their scaling became relevant. The patch improves parts of their later progression. The goal is not to make every weak early game safe. Opponents can still punish poor trades and missed farm. The change gives skilled players a better chance to recover through stable play.

Each champion uses the added power differently. Irelia and Yasuo value sustained access to a fight, while Qiyana relies on short openings and precise ability order. The final effect will depend on builds and matchups.

The patch reduces the power of several strong champions

Riot has reduced Nasus and Vayne because both placed too much pressure on top-lane matchups. Xerath was also producing excessive results in the middle lane. Nocturne and Graves receive jungle nerfs. Both champions could clear efficiently and convert that tempo into fights before many opponents were ready. Small statistical changes can alter how safely they complete the first route.

These are focused reductions rather than complete redesigns. The champions keep their main abilities and familiar roles. Players will need to judge whether the old item timing still produces the same power spike.

Stormrazor becomes stronger while Sundered Sky becomes weaker

Sundered Sky receives another reduction because the previous nerf did not lower its value enough. The item had remained a dependable choice for fighters that wanted damage and survival in one purchase.

The update also adjusts items and early combat decisions.

Stormrazor receives help so it can return to more marksman builds. Riot wants the item to compete with other early purchases instead of appearing only in a narrow group of situations.

Item changes can reach many champions at once. A small adjustment may alter first purchases, later combinations and rune choices. Early match data will show which users gain the most.

The developers corrected several damage calculation errors

The update fixes an error that allowed Exhaust to reduce true damage. It also corrects cases where several slows ignored Master Yi’s resistance or Morgana’s Black Shield. Minion behaviour receives attention because some spells failed to trigger the normal call for help. Riot also removed an item interaction that could copy Tear stacks when stacked items changed inventory positions.

These fixes are less visible than champion balance, but they improve trust in repeated actions. Players can prepare around a rule only when the same input gives the same result each time.

Riot will update Arena balance once every two patches

Riot has moved Arena back to balance changes on alternating League patches. The mode is now considered stable enough to avoid frequent changes that remove builds before players can study them. Patch 26.17 still adjusts several outliers, including Ambessa, Tahm Kench, Teemo, Vel’Koz, Zaahen and Zilean. Item and augment changes also target combinations that were too weak or too dominant. The slower schedule should give each set of changes more time to produce reliable match data.
