A Fall From Demacia

Taric did not choose to leave Demacia; disgrace over a failure of duty pushed him out, and that same disgrace sent him climbing the slopes of Mount Targon looking for a way to make things right. He expected exile to feel like punishment. Instead it became the start of something he had not been looking for at all.

What he found up there was larger than forgiveness. Targon, the mountain region whose peak is said to touch the stars and hold court to Aspects and cosmic mystery, granted him a station he never went looking for: he became the Aspect of the Protector, one of Runeterra’s guardians tasked with defending life, love, and beauty rather than a single kingdom. The title of Shield of Valoran followed naturally from a role that now has him standing watch not just over Demacia’s old borders but over anywhere the Void’s corruption threatens to spread.

Cooldowns Paid in Starlight

His kit as a Support and Tank who can also hold the Top lane runs on Mana and on the same idea of protection made literal. Bravado turns his next two basic attacks into empowered strikes after any spell cast, trimming his own cooldowns as he fights. Starlight’s Touch banks charges from those empowered hits and spends them to heal nearby allies, while Bastion raises the Armor of Taric and whichever ally he links it to, shielding that partner as long as they stay close. Dazzle telegraphs a beam of starlight that stuns after a short delay, and Cosmic Radiance, his ultimate, pulses out after its own delay to make nearby allies briefly unable to die, often just in time to turn a losing fight around. Compared with fellow Targonites such as Leona and Pantheon, or Aphelios and Aurelion Sol who share the same mountain in their own way, Taric’s power reads less like a weapon and more like a promise kept just in time.
